Christ Is Our Sabbath

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi S____,

Thank you for your question.
If we are in Christ, we have entered into our Sabbath. Anyone who keeps a weekly sabbath is testifying against himself that he is still “under the law” and still has six days in which he is doing his own works. In Christ we do His works in everything we do, seven days a week.

1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Earlier I asked you to please read the paper entitled The Law of Moses Versus The Law of The Spirit. I gave you the verse in John which states clearly that Christ had broken the sabbath and claimed to be the Son of God.

Joh 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

I think I even pointed out Mat 12 where Christ Himself tells us that He and His apostles “as the priests… profane the sabbath and are guiltless.”

Mat 12:5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
Mat 12:6 But I say unto you, That in this place is [ one] greater than the temple.
Mat 12:7 But if ye had known what [ this] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Christ and His apostles would have been stoned for not preparing twice as much on Friday and preparing for the sabbath if they had been living under Moses. A man was stoned for picking up sticks on the sabbath. Christ and His apostles broke the sabbath and were guiltless, not because they had not broken or profaned the sabbath, if that had been the case then Christ would have said so, but He admits that he, like the priests, had “profaned the sabbath and was guiltless.”
You are repeating a question about a “carnal commandment” full of “carnal ordinances,” which we are told has been “changed.”

Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

I do not mean to be short with you, but when I have already answered your questions in another place, I have to refer you to that for the sake of time. I hope you understand.
