The Wise Virgins
Mike I pray that you are having a great week. Today I was listening to part 2 of the bible study “The wise Took Oil”. In the study you made reference that the same word for darkness in Mat 6:23 is the same word as miserable in 1Co 15:19. Below I copied that section from the study notes.
Mat 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
It is interesting that the word ‘darkness’ there is the exact same word translated miserable in 1Co 15:19.
1Co 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
The Greek word is eleeinois. There is no peace of mind in disobedience to the doctrine of Jesus Christ. God’s elect have peace of mind because they know where they stand and it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of them. They just stand.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable [ eleeinois], and poor, and blind, and naked:
I looked it up in esword and the Greek version that I have doesn’t show it being the same word. What version did you use? It’s easily seen by scripture that those that are in darkness are miserable (Rev 3:17). But the Greek word for darkness doesn’t seem to be the same as miserable. I greatly am thankful for all those involved in making these studies available on the website. God is showing me so much, and there isn’t enough hours in a day to listen to as much as I would like to. But I know the Lord is feeding me as much as He wants me to have each day. Recently there has been several from WCG that have emailed me with questions. Some are admitting they are so confused and don’t know what the bible really says, and others just want to have the opportunity to prove someone wrong. In each case the Lord has given me His word to answer why I have the hope that is with in me. It’s interesting because it wasn’t until after I finished the bible studies on “who knows the truth” that I had time to answer their emails. I must admit that it’s somewhat uncomfortable saying that God has granted me to know the truth; not just some of the truth, but all truth. But I know the Truth, and He knows me and at anytime He is able to give me truth that I don’t remember (which is often) or revelation that He hasn’t yet given me. Aren’t the words “All Truth” just spiritual code name for Jesus since Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life”? So since Jesus and the Father have their abode in me, therefore I have “All Truth”. Please correct me if I am off in left field. Blessings D____
Hi D___,
Thank you for pointing this out! I have just reviewed every single entry for darkness, and both entries for ‘miserable’ and I feel miserable at making such a blatant error. I have no idea where I got that. It appears that the Lord simply wants to humble me at this time.
I thank Him for doing so, and I thank you for helping me to see this. I really do not want to be in ‘darkness’ even when it means having to be humbled to come out of that darkness.
Having said that I want to use this whole incident to help answer your question in this e- mail.
It is exciting to see you coming to understand what is the mind of the True Christ instead of what Paul calls “another Jesus.”
2Co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or [ if] ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
And it is very rewarding for me that you are able to share your treasure with your brothers who are yet in bondage. I feel sure you are doing so “in meekness and in fear,” but we still must be vigilant against becoming “puffed up” with our new found Christ and His words. In Truth we will all become puffed up, and we will all have to have some brother come to us and point out our mistakes.
1Co 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
It is written, and we will live it simply because it “proceeded out of the mouth of God.”
Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
That is just the system God has ordained to bring us to see that we need each other because we are His body, and a body is interdependent. This way we all learn that it is He, and He alone who is in charge, and that He alone “knows all things.” When we glory, we “glory in Him,” simply because it is only “in Christ” that we have any “wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, or redemption.”
1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
1Co 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
Now you said this:
“It’s interesting because it wasn’t until after I finished the bible studies on “who knows the truth” that I had time to answer their emails. I must admit that it’s somewhat uncomfortable saying that God has granted me to know the truth; not just some of the truth, but all truth. Since Jesus and the Father have their abode in me, therefore I have “All Truth”. Please correct me if I am off in left field.
What you say here is true inasmuch as Christ is all truth and we know Him who is all truth. But I want you to look at 2Co 3:18
2Co 3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which [ vail] is done away in Christ.
2Co 3:15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
2Co 3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [ is], there [ is] liberty.
2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [ even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.
“Their minds were blinded” are you and me. We all start out as “the son of the bondwoman, and as we come to see Christ as He really is as we are changed into that same image, not all at once but “from glory to glory” by dying daily and decreasing as He increases.
Joh 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
You ask me to, “Please correct me if I am off in left field.” Well it seems that I’m the one in need of correction, but I will say that this whole incident demonstrates that though we know Him who is all Truth, and even though He is abiding in us, it is still the case that we must “die daily… decrease as He increases… [ and confess daily]
Php 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Yes, we are “as He is in this world” in that we are to expect the same treatment, and are to react to that treatment as He did, and endure all He endured, but we cannot say that we “knew no sin,” and neither do we “know all things that will come on us” as He did. I, for one am surprised when Judas betrays me.
1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Joh 18:4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
I will never hesitate to say that I know Him who knows all things, and “being as He is in this world” I, too, will always speak His words with authority.
Mat 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
But each passing day I can honestly say that I feel that there is more to learn than ever before, and this exchange demonstrates the Truth of that statement.
Having been accused of being a ‘know it all’ on more than one occasion, I know far better than those making that accusation, just how far from the Truth that accusation is. I have spent many hours fighting the false “fullness now” doctrine and I certainly do not consider myself perfect, nor do I consider myself to have yet apprehended that for which I have been apprehended.
Nevertheless, I would suggest that you “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” I would not claim to “know all Truth,” but rather to know Him who does know all and being changed into that image from glory to glory.
It isn’t possible to “grow” if we already ‘know all Truth.’
Your brother in the Christ,
Mike
