Knowing Doctrine And Truth

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi S____,
You say:

To which I say, amen.
You ask:

To which I answer, I hear from God by way of the holy spirit, which, as I pointed out in our earlier exchange is “the words that I speak unto you.”

Joh 6:63  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Now let me ask you, do you believe that these words in Joh 6 are the words of the holy spirit? If you do, then you should also agree that these words are also inspired of God:

1Co 4:6  And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

There is no room for becoming “puffed up” in men, if we follow the warning of the spirit in this verse to “learn not to think above that which is written.” But let us never make the mistake of believing that because someone tells us that the holy spirit has shown them such and such, that therefore it must be truth. “Thy word is Truth,” is what we must abide in.

Joh 8:31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples;

The revelation I have is not of men. I want to “abide in Christ’s words.” His words are “that which is written” in the scriptures. Is the revelation which you want to share with me also “that which is written?” If so then, by all means, please share it with me.
You say:

What is “God’s Truth?” Here is what “God’s Truth” is.

Joh 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

It is only by “Thy Word” that we can possibly “try the spirits to see whether they be of God.”

1Jn 4:1  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

There is no other way to “try the spirits to see whether they are of God” than by obeying the holy spirit as it inspired Paul to warn us to look into “that which is written” and never “think above that which is written.” If anyone tries to teach something that is “above what is written” then we can rest assured that that spirit is not of God.

1Co 4:6 (b) … That ye might learn in us not to thinkabove that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

Those are very plain words straight from the holy spirit. Please, when you “teach me what the holy spirit is telling you,” be sure to first “try the spirits to see whether they are… thinking above that which is written.”
Any scripture which the holy spirit has given you “eyes to see and ears to hear,” please do share those with me. I have learned much from many brothers in Christ from all over the world by this means.
Many charismatics expect others to believe that what they say is a revelation from the holy spirit should never be challenged, but that is the exact opposite of what 1Jn 4:1 instructs us to do:

1Jn 4:1  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Many millions of Christians have fallen into the trap of ignoring this verse and putting the words of men about “that which is written.” Let neither of us go there. Let us not be snared by those who think “that which is written” is mere “ink on paper,” as those charismatics put it. “That which is written was far more than mere “ink on paper” to both Paul and John. There is no possible way to “try the spirits” except by trying those doctrines against “that which is written.” Everything else is without anchor or rudder and is contrary to the plain instructions of God which protect us from every false doctrine which comes along being proffered by those who claim that the holy spirit is teaching them. If it is truly of the holy spirit, then it will be easily established by the Word of God. If it cannot be established by “that which is written,” then it is “not of God.”

Joh 6:63  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Your brother in Christ,
Mike
