He That Finds His Life Will Lose It

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi V____,
I cannot tell you how encouraging it is to read a letter like this.
You are the head of your house, and you can teach your children nothing but the Truth. If one fails to do so because of fear of the loss of a wife, then one will lose both wife and children and also his standing with Christ. I wish all in this situation would have the strength and faith God has given you in dealing with this.

Mat 10:39  He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

When Paul talks about “the unbelieving being pleased to dwell with the believer,” he is not advocating that the believer should compromise his or her convictions for the sake of the marriage. Paul knew how Christ felt about such situations.

1Co 7:12  But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
1Co 7:13  And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
1Co 7:14  For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
1Co 7:15  But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such [ cases]: but God hath called us to peace.
1Co 7:16  For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

It is the fidelity of the believer to the doctrine of Christ that “saves your husband… [ or] wife.” You have Christ and His Word on your side. There is nowhere else to go:

Mat 10:32  Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 10:33  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 10:34  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Mat 10:36  And a man’s foes [ shall be] they of his own household.
Mat 10:37  He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:38  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:39  He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
Mat 10:40  He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Mat 10:41  He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
Mat 10:42  And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

Look at verse 40. “He that receives you receives me… and him that sent me.” When I receive you, I am receiving God and Christ. But what we fail to see in that statement is the fact that if I reject you as one who is faithful to the words of Christ, I am rejecting Christ and His Father, and again, this is what comes of that:

Mat 10:32  Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 10:33  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

I will be home all day tomorrow so please call me at your convenience.  I would love to hear from you, and I look forward to doing so.
I also look forward to seeing you at one of our conferences when the Lord sees fit.
Your brother in the Christ.
Mike
