Is, Was and Will Be – The Unknown Character of Christ and His Word

Does God Send Us Our Trials?

The scriptural answer to your question is that “it really is in the will of God,” and God Himself sends Satan to try us.

It is God sending an evil spirit to try us. It is NOT done for Him to see what we will do, but for us to see what weak helpless creatures we really are. He already knows, but we think we have strength of ourselves. We have to be shown that only ‘in Him’ do we live and move and have our being (Act 17:28).

1Sa 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Now notice how this same truth is revealed in two separate accounts of David’s numbering of the people:

2Sa 24:1 And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he [the Lord] moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

Now this same story as related in Chronicles:

1Ch 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

Satan does nothing without being sent by God to do it. Read Job’s account of this fact. I have dozens of such examples in the paper After The Counsel of His Own Will. You need to read that paper. It was originally a letter to answer the question asked me: “If we don’t have free will, then how could the people refuse their invitation to the wedding feast?” This paper answers that question in every detail.

It will answer your question in detail. I hope this helps.
