Pro 9:1-18 “Wisdom Hath Builded her House,
She Hath Hewn Out Her Seven Pillars”

[Study Aired Jan 23, 2024]

In this ninth chapter we are introduced to two woman, the first woman representing the body of Christ (Pro 9:1-12), and the foolish woman in (Pro 9:13-18) representing our time in Babylon where we all start off and Lord willing are dragged out of in this life (Heb 6:3, Joh 6:44).

Heb 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

The order that this proverb unfolds is significant seeing the Lord declares the end from the beginning. The first church or woman that is in view is the body of Christ whose seven pillars have been hewn out by Christ who alone can build the house (Psa 127:1). She represents what God is going to accomplish in the life of those who are called out of Babylon having been held by the lies and strong delusion within her (2Th 1:1-10). The hewing out of the pillars that make the new creation, the bride of Christ, is symbolized by Christ freeing a certain woman “which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils” (Luk 8:2).

Psa 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Regarding pillars that represent the glorious workmanship of God in Christ’s body, we recently read in Ato Barnes’ study:

https://www.iswasandwillbe.com/deuteronomy-deu-71-driving-out-the-hittites/

Like the offering in the old covenant in Leviticus, God introduces the bullock first before all the other sacrifices, which sacrifice is complete [seven pillars], and totally consumed without the camp as a type of how the bride of Christ must go unto perfection in this life, which is made possible by the strength of that bullock sacrifice representing Christ’s life in us who gives us the power to be more than conquerors through Him (Heb 13:13, Php 4:13).

Heb 13:13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

We must identify with the foolish woman first (Pro 9:13-18) even as we acknowledge that our Lord is faithful who has begun this hewing out process that he will finish (Rev 19:7-8) in those few who have been called and chosen in this life (Php 1:6, Mat 22:14).

Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Pro 9:1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

Last week we looked at this FAQ that Mike wrote that explains why wisdom is spoken of in the feminine gender: “https://www.iswasandwillbe.com/why-is-wisdom-portrayed-in-the-female-gender/“.

The church is represented by the feminine bride of Christ, but what is not understood is that Christ is likened unto the wife of His head which is God the Father, just as the head of the woman is the man, and the church is subject unto Christ as he is the bride’s husband and her head (1Co 11:3, Eph 5:23).

1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

The creation of Adam and Eve reveal the spiritual reality of the Godhead which knowledge is little known and hid from the churches of this world (Rom 1:20).

Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

In this study we will look at how blessed we are to know that Christ (Wisdom) is the author and finisher of our faith who we can cast all our cares upon with unwavering confidence (Heb 12:1-3, Heb 10:35-36).

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Heb 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Heb 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Pro 9:2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

This verse gives us the impression that it’s all something that has already been accomplished: the killing of her beasts which represents our carnal nature that must be destroyed by the brightness of his coming into our heavens (2Th 2:5-8), the mingling of her wine which represents the growing in grace and knowledge of Christ (2Pe 3:18), and the furnishing of her table which represents the altar which is the cross that God’s elect are bound to in this life (Gal 2:20, Psa 118:27).

2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

In reality the “She hath killedH2873” and the “she hath mingledH4537” and the “she hath also furnishedH6186” are all in the ‘qal stem’, denoting the process that is ongoing in every Christian’s life unto the third day where Christ our wisdom brings us unto perfection as the author and finisher of our faith (Luk 13:32).

Luk 13:32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

Pro 9:2 She hath killedH2873 [H8804] her beastsH2874; she hath mingledH4537 [H8804]her wineH3196; she hath also furnishedH6186 [H8804]her tableH7979.

H8804 Stem -Qal – See [H8851] Qal is the most frequently used verb pattern. It expresses the “simple” or “causal” action of the root in the active voice. Mood -Perfect – See [H8816] 2d) Sometimes in Hebrew, future events are conceived so vividly and so realistically that they are regarded as having virtually taken place and are described by the perfect. Pro 9:3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
Pro 9:4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
Pro 9:5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

Christ who is our wisdom (1Co 1:30) makes the manifest knowledge of the true gospel known through the church (Eph 3:10), which is represented by the “maidens” that are sent forth (Joh 20:21-23, Joh 3:17, Psa 107:20) and who “crieth upon the highest places of the city“, those cities representing the churches of Babylon and the high places of man’s heart that will in time be humbled by the true gospel of God (Mat 24:14, 1Pe 3:15).

Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
Joh 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
Joh 20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Psa 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; [in time all the world, all mankind will hear this one true gospel] and then shall the end come [until then… Mat 10:23, Rev 20:6, when the last enemy is destroyed the gospel will have been preached and converted every single soul that God ever created 1Co 15:26].

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Pro 9:6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
Pro 9:7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
Pro 9:8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Pro 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

The foolishness that we forsake is the “foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing” of verse 13 who represents the churches of Babylon who have no stay of bread or water and know nothing as such (Isa 3:1).

Isa 3:1 For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,

We don’t reprove her as it’s not our place to measure the court (Rev 11:2), neither do we rebuke a wicked person in this world thereby avoiding this blot upon our souls. If we don’t measure the court we certainly don’t measure the camp and become involved with the affairs of this world (2Ti 2:4-7). Aaron is currently reviewing an FAQ that Mike answered about 16 years ago that goes into more detail about “how we are in the world but not of it” (Joh 17:16):

https://www.iswasandwillbe.com/working-a-job-and-still-forsaking-all/

Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

2Ti 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
2Ti 2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
2Ti 2:6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
2Ti 2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Pro 9:11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
Pro 9:12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

Our example is Christ who in the days of his flesh feared God (Heb 5:7), and if Christ is abiding in us today as our hope of glory (Col 1:27), we also as his flesh and bones (Eph 5:30) should be moving through this life with the same spirit that fears God, as opposed to the spirit of anti-Christ that is trying to tear down the truth (2Jn 1:7, Rev 11:18-19) but will not prevail (Mat 16:18-19). It takes the fear of the Lord within us to hew out those seven pillars which are also represented by the ark of Noah that was built by God’s prophet who moved with fear (Heb 11:7).

Heb 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

2Jn 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth [they destroy the words of Christ but don’t prevail against the body of Christ Mat 16:18].
Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning stage in our walk, and the only ground on which Christ our wisdom will build a new creation (Act 9:4-8) that will, through that sanctification process (Joh 17:17), come to understand “the knowledge of the holy is understanding“.

Act 9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Act 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Act 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
Act 9:7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
Act 9:8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: (1Jn 2:27) but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

The reward that is promised to God’s elect for enduring to the end (Mat 24:13-14), and loving not our own life (Mat 10:39) is expressed with this verse (v. 11), “For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased“. The ‘days multiplied’ and ‘our life increased’ are another way of telling us of the reward of being in that blessed and holy first resurrection (Rev 20:6).

Mat 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Mat 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

If we have an unction, an anointing in this life by God (1Jn 2:20), we will, with the life of Christ within us, be wise unto ourselves, drinking water from our own cisterns, not made with man’s hands that carved out wisdom with the carnal minds, but hewn out by our great Creator who has given us this high calling and privilege to imbibe in the living waters that come through Christ alone (Joh 7:38). Conversely if we scoff and lack the faith to believe the promises that God has given us in this life, then we will fall into the category of those who scoff and say our Lord delays his coming, and must bear that terrible consequence of unbelief in the lake of fire: “If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it“.

1Jn 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

Joh 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Pro 9:13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
Pro 9:14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
Pro 9:15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
Pro 9:16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
Pro 9:17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
Pro 9:18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

These last verses are an admonition that describe the first woman we encounter in this life, where God’s people are taken into Babylonian captivity (Jer 25:11-12).

Jer 25:11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
Jer 25:12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

The terminology is not flattering, and was not meant to be, but it is what it is, as it describes the negative high places of Babylon which “call passengers who go right on their ways” like a harlot, or city, or church that is corrupt and defiled. This description of the harlot church system is contrasted with the true church in the earlier verses that we’ve read.

Pro 9:1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
Pro 9:2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished (arrange, put in order) her table. (Php 2:12-13)

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

It is the simple, first blind man Adam in us, who is ‘turned in hither wanting understanding’, but not realizing that these are corrupt places that have misappropriated God’s word symbolized by what Belshazzar did with the vessels of the temple that his father “Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem”, “Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant” (Dan 5:2).

Dan 5:2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.

We go into the churches of this world by God’s design and don’t know this is where the dead are burying the dead, because we ourselves our spiritually dead and not able as yet to discern the true gospel, which takes the miracle of our eyes and ears being open by Christ (Luk 9:60, Mat 13:16).

Luk 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

Mat 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
