THE SOVEREIGN HANDS: Righteous Embrace and the Inversion of Dominion

OPENING:

THE THRESHOLD OF CONSUMMATION

Song of Solomon 2:6 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.
Song of Solomon 2:7 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

The Song’s composition is characterized by righteous, anticipatory limerence: Solomon and his Bride envision what is yet to come in glorious verisimilitude.

Hos 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

You are standing at the threshold. The Song has moved through longing—through those first private intimacies in the chambers where the Bride and Bridegroom know themselves in each other’s delight. They have withdrawn from the public gaze. The veil has been drawn.

Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

And now, as they stand at the precipice of complete union, the poetry arrests. The Shulamite speaks. And she speaks not of surrender, but of a solemn warning.

She charges the daughters of Jerusalem—those carnal women who once mastered the arts of seduction and withholding, who ruled the bedrooms of the world, the churches, through manipulation and contempt—not to stir her love before its time. Not to rouse her before her Husband pleases.

This is the crystalline moment. The distinction between carnal lust and righteous love has never been more explicit in all of Scripture. What you are about to understand is not merely poetry. It is the anatomical exposure of what happens in every human heart when desire meets covenant, when the flesh meets the Spirit, when anticipation stands at the edge of consummation and refuses—with absolute firmness—to transgress the boundary that guards the sacred.

You must understand what is to happen in this room. Not as metaphor. As reality.

THE PARADOX OF THE LEFT HAND—JUDGMENT AS THE FOUNDATION OF PLEASURE

His left hand is under her head. Her head—the seat of her thoughts, the place of consciousness itself—rests upon His left hand.

But you have been taught something different. You have been taught that the left hand is the place of judgment, rejection, separation. In Matthew 25, Christ separates the goats to His left and the sheep to His right. In Scripture, the left hand symbolises the negative, the excluded, the cast-out. The left is where the lesser light dwells. The left is where judgment operates. The left is where those temporarily severed from the covenant are cast.

Yet here, in the Song—in the most intimate moment possible between the Bride and her Bridegroom—the left hand signifies the coming sanctuary. It is support. It is the tender foundation upon which her head, her mind, her very consciousness rests.

This is not contradiction. This is the beginning of understanding the true nature of God’s work with your flesh.

Psa 17:7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

In this context, the left hand is not arbitrary judgment or punishment divorced from love. The left hand is corrective chastisement. It is the gracious work of a God who cares enough about you to privately expose what you have been defending. The left hand holds everything you thought was security, and it reveals that those securities were lies (Mat 25:31-46).

Mat 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Think about it. Your former securities—the religions you clung to, the doctrines you defended, the self-image you polished, the versions of yourself you offered to the world—all of them rest upon His left hand. Every single one. You built your confidence on judgments you mistook for blessings. You thought you were safe in your own understanding. But all the while, in your conventional Orthodox deluded mind, you were being held over the abyss. You were being held high enough to finally see the distance of the fall.

Luk 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
Luk 8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep [G12 – abyss. G107 – Transliteration: Buthos– Phonetic: boo-thos’- Definition: 1. the bottom or depth of the sea]

His left hand is under her head because she must learn—at the deepest level of thought and consciousness, where no lie can hide—that every protection she ever received came from the One who was also her Judge. The One who could have left her in her adulteries. The One who could have hardened her heart and walked away. The One who could have said, “You have forfeited pleasure. You will know only correctness, only duty, only the cold righteousness of a law-keeper.”

But instead, He held her. He held her head above the waters. And He said something that you must hear with absolute clarity: “I am not finished with you. You will know pleasure as I intended it, not as Satan promised it. And that pleasure will be sweeter precisely because you understand what you have been delivered from.”

This is the left hand’s work. Judgment and mercy operating as one.

THE RIGHT HAND’S ACTIVE MASTERY—ORCHESTRATING THE PLEASURE THAT BELONGS ONLY TO THE COVENANT

But while His left hand establishes this foundation of corrective love—this holding of her over the judgment she deserves—His right hand is not still. His right hand is not frozen in a static embrace. His right hand is actively, sovereignly, masterfully orchestrating.

Exo 15:4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.
Exo 15:5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.
Exo 15:6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

The text says it plainly: “his right hand doth embrace me.” But look beneath the surface English. This is not passive holding. This is dynamic action. This is the active, sovereign orchestration of pleasure that belongs only to the One who has the covenant right to give it.

Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

The right hand of God is the place where God’s power executes itself in real time. Where God’s favour manifests. Where God’s righteousness accomplishes its purpose. When the right hand acts, it does so with absolute authority and perfect knowledge of what produces genuine joy and genuine transformation.

The right hand does not offer counterfeit pleasure—the shallow intoxication of self-gratification or the violent thrill of dominance over another. The right hand orchestrates true pleasure: the profound joy of being completely known by the One who shaped you, being absolutely desired by the One who has the covenant right to desire you, being remade in the image of the One whose knowledge of you is exhaustive and whose love is irrevocable.

This is why the Bride can rest. This is why her head can rest upon His left hand—held over the judgment she deserves—while His right hand is simultaneously at work. She does not fear His mastery because she understands that His mastery is redemptive. His dominion over her is not the dominion of a tyrant. It is the dominion of a Husband who has already paid with His own blood for the right to command her.

And here is the secret that transforms everything: she cannot experience His mastery without first accepting His judgment. She cannot feel His pleasure without first acknowledging that what He is undoing in her—the lies she believed, the compromises she made, the patterns she inherited from Eden—was destroying her. The left hand must do its work before the right hand can give its gift.

THE GENEALOGY OF USURY—FROM SATAN’S FIRST DECEPTION TO YOUR OWN FLESH

But you must understand what the Shulamite is being delivered from. And to understand this, you must trace the lineage of the deception back to its origin.

In the beginning, in Eden, Satan came to Eve with a very specific promise. Not merely, “You shall not surely die.” But something far more righteously insidious, negatively and positively: “Ye shall be as gods.” He offered her wisdom. He offered her knowledge. He offered her the means to become her own source of power, her own ultimate authority, answerable to no one but herself—least of all, Adam.

And in exchange—in the fine print that was never mentioned—what did she owe him?

The Hebrew word is H5391. It means “to give interest; to lend for interest or usury.” It means to advance a loan and then demand not merely return of principal, but interest. Not merely the original amount, but increase upon increase.

Numbers 21:5-6 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

When the fiery serpents bit the people in the wilderness—when Israel, weary of the light bread, lusted for the fleshpots of Egypt—they were being bitten by Satan himself, exactly as Eve was bitten in the garden. And the bite was itself a kind of transaction: Satan had advanced a loan of false wisdom, and now the interest came due. But the interest was not merely sexual. The interest was spiritual enslavement. The interest was the entire trajectory of human depravity flowing from that first transaction in the garden.

Exodus 22:25-27 If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury. If thou at all take thy neighbour’s raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down: For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

God Himself forbids usury. He forbids it not as an arbitrary rule, but as an expression of His covenant mercy. The garment covers the body. The raiment protects the skin from nudity. And God says: even if a man owes you, even if he is in debt, you cannot take from him the very thing that protects his vulnerability. You cannot strip him bare.

Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Raiment H899 – 1. treachery, deceit 2. (CLBL) garment, clothing (used indiscriminately)
Strong’s: A primitive root; to cover (with a garment); figuratively, to act covertly; by implication, to pillage: – deal deceitfully (treacherously, unfaithfully); offend; transgress; (-or) (depart); treacherous (dealer-ly man); unfaithful (-ly man); X very.

Gen 24:53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment [H 899], and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.

Yet this is precisely the trap that has ensnared all of humanity since the garden. Eve borrowed from Satan—borrowed the promise of godhood, borrowed the knowledge of good and evil, borrowed the power to be her own source of authority. Now all her daughters pay interest. Double interest. Triple interest. Interest compounded upon interest, generation upon generation.

Here is how the mechanism works: Once Satan convinced Eve that her body, her sexuality, her feminine power could be weaponised—could be used to control, to seduce, to extract value from men—she became his debtor. And she passed that debt to her daughters. Now women (all women but the Bride—churches) use their bodies as instruments of usury. They dangle sexuality before men the way a moneylender dangles a loan before a desperate poor man. “Give me what I want. Prove your love. Provide what I demand. Give me the security I’m owed.” And the man, like Adam, pays and pays and pays, never able to discharge the debt. The interest compounds. The years pass. And he dies having never actually owned anything that belongs to him.

Proverbs 28:8 He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

Here is the inexorable judgment written into the very structure of the covenant: the woman who lives by usury, who makes her husband a perpetual debtor, who extracts continual interest from his devotion and his labour—her substance will eventually be gathered by those who will pity the poor. Her manipulations will be turned against her. Her children will betray her.

The very weapons she forged will be wielded by those she sought to control.

The armour of seduction will become worthless. The beauty that extracted so much interest will fade, and she will discover that she has nothing left to trade.

This is not God being cruel. This is the covenant keeping its word: “The wages of sin is death.”

THE BRIDE’S DELIVERANCE—THE REVERSAL OF THE USURY

But what about the Shulamite? The Bride?

She has been delivered from this debt. She is no longer borrowing from Satan. She is no longer trading her spiritual sexuality for power, for security, for the false validation of being desired. She is no longer using her body as collateral against a Husband she fears does not love her enough.

Instead, she stands in her Husband’s presence. And His right hand—that hand of active mastery—orchestrates a pleasure that requires nothing from her but her own willingness to be transformed by it. Her body is not a tool for negotiation. It is a temple. It is a gift. It is the very expression of her willingness to be completely known and completely possessed by the One who has already claimed her.

This is the reversal of Eden. This undoes the original usury. This is what the Bride is given to reclaim: the power to say no to every man but one, and to say yes to that one with a fullness and a freedom that no other woman who has ever lived has known.

Think about what this means. Every other woman is bound by the mechanism of usury. Every other woman uses her sexuality as a weapon or a commodity. Every other woman is calculating—whether consciously or unconsciously—what she can extract, what she can demand, what return she can secure. She is bound in perpetual transaction.

But the Bride? The Bride gives. She gives completely. She holds nothing back. She does not negotiate. She does not withhold. She does not keep a ledger of what she is owed. She gives because she has already been given to, completely and without reservation. His left hand holds her. His right hand embraces her. And in that embrace, the interest is paid. The debt is cancelled. And she is free.

THE SHULAMITE’S OATH—THE FOUR-FOLD CHARGE TO THE DAUGHTERS OF JERUSALEM

Now look again at what the Shulamite does in verse 7:

Song of Solomon 2:7 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

The Shulamite is charging her sisters with a solemn, binding oath. The Hebrew word is H7650. It means “to swear, to adjure, to cause to swear, to bind by an oath.” This is not a gentle request. This is not a plea. In the Old Covenant, this is a woman of absolute authority issuing a command binding before heaven and earth.

And what is she commanding? That they not stir up, not awake, not provoke her love before its appointed time. Before her Husband pleases.

But who are these roes and hinds? These are the creatures of beauty in Scripture. The word H6643 for roe (a gazelle) derives from a root meaning “to swell, to become prominent.” These are creatures of elegance, of grace, of a particular kind of aesthetic power. Specifically, the roe and the hind are distinctly female creatures—symbols of the beauty of the feminine form. Not the strength of the ram or the stag (the male), but the elegant, flowing beauty of the feminine.

Breast H7699 – 1. breast, bosom, (female) breast. From H7736 – 1. (Qal) to ruin, destroy, spoil, devastate. Strong’s: A primitive root; properly to swell up; that is, figuratively (by implication of insolence) to devastate: – waste.

The Shulamite is swearing by the very thing her sisters are most skilled at weaponising. She is saying, in effect: “By the very breasts that you have used to seduce and control, by the very lips and form that you have used to extract and demand, I charge you—do not touch what is mine. Do not teach me your methods. Do not make me believe that my body is a tool for power. Do not drag me down to the pattern that has enslaved you.”

Eze 23:3 And they [Ahola and Aholbah] committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity.

Why would she do this? Why would the Bride, standing at the threshold of complete physical union with her Husband, need to fortify herself—need to swear an oath—against her own sisters?

Because the anticipation is almost unbearable. The condition she is guarding against—the physical arousal that mounts without release, the pelvic congestion, even though carefully managed, it builds and builds with no way to discharge it—particularly from a male’s perspective, this is what seized Amnon when he saw Tamar. If left unguarded, this state becomes so desperate that violation seems justified. That’s why the Shulamite fortifies the boundary with an oath.

The Shulamite understands something that the carnal world has completely forgotten: righteous anticipation requires righteous boundaries. Her love for her Husband is real. Her desire for him is genuine. Her body is responding to the reality of covenant union, and that response is good and holy. But the moment she transgresses the boundary—the moment she yields to the pressure of her own flesh or the goading of her sisters—the moment she attempts to satisfy the anticipation through fornication or self-gratification—she breaks the covenant just as she is about to receive it.

So she swears an oath. She fortifies the boundary with the weight of solemn obligation. She speaks the charge four times in the Song—four, which signifies the whole of a thing and also frequently through tribulation. She is saying: “This is not negotiable. This is not optional. This is the whole of the matter. Do not stir up my love until he pleases.”

OUR OWN THRESHOLD—WHERE THE VIOLATION BEGINS

This is where you are right now. Whether you are consciously aware of it or not, you are standing at the threshold of your own consummation. The Bridegroom has brought you into His chambers. His left hand supports you—holding you over the judgment you deserve and, paradoxically, relish. His right hand is orchestrating the revelation of who you are meant to be. The anticipation builds. The desire mounts. And at precisely this moment, your sisters come.

Your former self comes. Your mother comes. Your flesh comes. Babylon comes. The entire carnal pattern that has enslaved you—it all comes—and it whispers: “You’ve waited long enough. Prove his love by taking what you want. Stop being so virtuous. You deserve this. Enjoy yourself. Everyone else does. Why should you be the exception?”

Luk 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Eze 23:19 Yet she [God’s anointed for the task, Ahola and Aholabah—Israel] multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.
Eze 23:20 For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses [… being their fascination with the power they command over men, and depicting the sheer number (volume) of lovers. God doesn’t mince the reality of sin’s devastation to vividly impact his Bride].

This is Amnon’s moment repeating in your heart. This is the threshold where the violator and the violated look identical, because they make the same choice. They transgress before the Husband pleases.

And the violation, when it comes—whether it is sexual sin, doctrinal compromise, spiritual unfaithfulness, the pursuit of another Jesus—it will feel like love for a moment. It will feel like freedom. It will feel like you are finally taking what belongs to you, what you have earned, what you deserve. But you will discover—as Amnon discovered with devastating clarity—that what you took was not what you imagined. The body you seized became dust. The pleasure you grasped became ashes. The supposed love inverted into contempt: for yourself, for the one from whom you seized it, for God Himself.

But this does not have to be your story.

The Shulamite guards the boundary not because her Husband is withholding good from her. She guards the boundary because she knows—with absolute certainty—what waits on the other side of it: a pleasure so profound, so complete, so drenched in the knowledge that she is fully known and fully desired by the One who has the covenant right to desire her—that anything less would be an unthinkable diminishment.

Indistinguishably, as light and darkness are to God, His left hand holds you over the judgment you deserve. His right hand prepares to give you a pleasure that only He can orchestrate. And your part—the only part that belongs to you—is to charge your own flesh with an oath: “Do not stir up my love until He pleases.”

Psa 139:10 Even there shall thy hand [both hands] lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Psa 139:11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
Psa 139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Jas 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Keep covenant. Hold the boundary. Fortify it with the weight of solemn obligation. Trust—with the trust of the Shulamite—that the Husband who has brought you this far will not abandon you at the threshold.

He will please. And when He does, you will understand why the waiting was not deprivation at all. It was the discipline of anticipation that transforms the moment itself into a resurrection.

END OF PART 14a

The Bride stands at the threshold. Her Husband’s spiritual embrace holds her safely from the fiery Dante-like abyss her sister’s ignorantly fear. His right hand orchestrates her becoming. With inner confidence, she charges the daughters of Jerusalem: “Stir not up my love till he please”—far more for their contemptuous goading and benefit than for her own long-gone lusts.
