The Book of John

(Joh 1:1-5)

[Study Aired October 29, 2026]

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God
.

Unlike the three Synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of John presents Christ from a heavenly perspective (Rev 4:7).

Rev 4:7  And the first beast was like a lion [Matthew], and the second beast like a calf [Mark], and the third beast had a face as a man [Luke], and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.[John]

The Word is Jesus Christ. The Greek word Logos means “Word” or “Spokesman,” as Aaron spoke for Moses and the prophets spoke for God. Moses is a type of God the Father and Aaron a type of Christ the spokesman. Christ is hidden from the world that does not see that He is the God of the old testament (Exo 3:14-15).

Exo 3:14  And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Exo 3:15  And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

Mat 11:27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. [no one knew Christ in the old covenant and people worship another Jesus, receive another spirit, and another gospel in the new covenant (2Co 11:4), which brings us to (1Jn 4:6, Mat 13:16)]

These first verses (Joh 1:1-2) are talking about the relationship between the Father and the Son, and their singleness of mind is importantly connected with the relationship of marriage to show the union of spirit between them both in these verses, (1Co 11:3 and Joh 10:30).

1Co 11:3  But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Joh 10:29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
Joh 10:30  I and my Father are one.

Christ is subject unto His Father in all things as wives are to be subject unto their husbands and each of us subject unto Christ who is our husband and head. We are also to be “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God” (Eph 5:21). The Father and Son do everything together and are inseparable, like a husband and wife (Mat 19:5), but the typical wife that Christ is represented by was not always there, but created as Eve came out of Adam.

Rom 1:20 directs us to understand the invisible things of God through the things He has made through Christ, and this is happening for the express purpose of helping us to endure in seeing him who is invisible (Heb 11:27).

Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Heb  11:27  By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

1Co 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, [all things includes Christ who was created] and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things,(Rom 11:36) and we by him. [all things includes Christ’s body the church, and the other fold (Joh 10:16) that Christ spoke of who were also all created as Christ was]

[the Father created Christ to fulfill God’s workmanship within His creation (Php 2:12-13, Eph 2:10). The “by whom are all things, and we by him” is speaking of Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith and it is the Father who is directing all things, and once again that is how a physical family is supposed to operate (Heb 12:2, Joh 6:44, Eph 1:11)].

Rom 11:36  For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

[There is therefore one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and the Father and the Son work together within us which is why the scripture says “and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things” (Php 2:12-13, Joh 14:20)]

Eph 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

All things originate from the Father and are created through Jesus Christ who was with God in the beginning (Joh 1:1-2). We know that God the Father has no beginning or end, however his Son like our physical children have a beginning (Rom 1:20) and that is the beginning being spoken of in these verses (Joh 1:1-2).

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2  The same was in the beginning with God.

God did not have a beginning (speaking of God the Father 1Ti 1:2, Heb 11:40, Joh 1:18, Joh 5:18, Joh 6:27, Joh 8:42-43), but Christ was with Him from the beginning of His being brought into existence (speaking of Christ Isa 43:10, Rev 1:8, Rev 3:14, Rev 21:6, Rev 22:13).

The Father

1Ti 1:2  Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

Heb 11:40  God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

[The some better thing for us is Christ who came into the world to save the chief of sinners who we all our (1Ti 1:15)]

Joh 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Joh 5:18  Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

Joh 6:27  Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Joh 6:46  Not that any man hath seen the Father,”No man hath seen God at any time” save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

Joh 8:41  Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

We are those Pharisees in our appointed time and tell God we were not born of fornication while we are in Babylon casting God’s words behind us. Christ says we must be born again (Joh 3:3-4), why? because our first birth into this world is unlike Christ’s the only begotten of the Father (Joh 1:18), and in time He reveals that we are of our father the devil, and we do the deeds of our father, unlike Christ who always obeyed his Father and did what was pleasing before Him, not needing to be born again!

Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? [we can’t be born again by going back into Babylon the mother of harlots who we came out of]

Joh 8:42  Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me:(1Jn 3:1 “Except a man be born again”) for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Joh 8:43  Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.(1Jn 4:6, Mat 13:16)

The Son

Isa 43:10  Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.(Isa 43:10-15)

Rev 1:8  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Rev 3:14  And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; [“before me there was no God formed”]

Rev 21:6  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Rev 22:13  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

The Sun of righteousness, Christ (Mal 4:2), was created as the Word, and then (Heb 4:14-15, Php 2:7, Joh 1:14) was born of Mary who was a virgin with child (Mat 1:23) who typifies the church who are likened unto virgins as well because of this new creation being formed within us (Rev 14:4).

Mal 4:2  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

Gen 1:16  And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day (Christ), and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Mat 1:23  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Rev 14:4  These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”(Joh 1:1) does not mean that Christ always existed and was always with the Father any more than Eve existed at the same time as Adam. The “the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” of (Rom 1:20) includes the example of Adam who can be seen either as a type of Christ, with Eve coming out of him as a type of the church (Gen 2:22), but also Adam can be a type of the Father, with Eve being a type of Christ who came out of the Father as Eve came out of Adam.

Knowing the Father and the Sun of righteousness (Joh 17:3) includes our knowing the greatness of God of whom Christ said “my Father is greater than I” along with knowing Christ. This should give us peace to know this and our hearts should not be troubled or afraid when we consider how great God is and how secure Christ’s life was with the Father as His head. If Christ’s life is this secure with the Father as His head, then so should the body of Christ be whose head is Christ (1Co 11:3). Initially our perspective of Christ is like that of John the baptist who pointed to Christ, but did not declare that he was one with Him in spirit (Joh 1:27, Joh 3:29-30).

Joh 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Joh 14:28  Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Joh 1:27  He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

Joh 3:29  He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

Joh 3:30  He must increase, but I must decrease.

It was the sacrifice of Christ that would redeem all of God’s creation because Christ is more valuable than all of the creation that God gave him the power to create. Christ was miraculously emptied of his power as The Word, and then become the only begotten of the Father (Joh 1:14). Only God could have brought forth the Word into a glorified existence, and it was by His power that Christ became the only begotten of the Father (Joh 5:30). So there is a greatness to God the Father and a greatness to the head of man Jesus Christ, and a greatness to Christ’s body, the least being greater than John who was spoken of in these terms as a man, “Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”[this is all just another way of saying what Christ said in these verses (Mat 10:29-31)]

Mat 10:29  Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Mat 10:30  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Mat 10:31  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.(Mat 10:29)

How great was Christ? One of the comparatives that the scriptures use to draw our attention to His value and greatness is found in (Heb 3:2-3) where Moses is likened unto the house that was built or created, Christ being the one who formed Moses, or wrote his book if you like. This physical example reveals the spiritual reality of how much greater the Father is than Christ, and like Moses who was created and likened unto the value of a house and Christ as the value of the builder, so our Lord was created by the Father and likened unto a house (Eze 43:10). God draws this comparative with Moses and Christ, and it is written for our admonition to help us see the vast difference between God the Father, and Christ who was created.

Heb 3:2  Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
Heb 3:3  For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. [This being the reason it was expedient that Christ go away so the spirit of God could be sent and new creation formed (Joh 16:7)]

Eze 43:10  Thou son of man, shew the house [Christ the new blue print] to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern. [only Christ can be Christ and he is the pattern in the mount being formed within the body of Christ, so that we are as him (1Jn 4:17), insomuch that we are His body and He is our head (Act 9:5)]

Joh 1:3   All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Joh 1:4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

We live and move and have our being in Christ (Act 17:28) in order for all things to work according to the counsel of God’s will, and know that all things are ours (Eph 1:11, 1Co 3:21-23, Ecc 9:3). That is how the way, the truth and the life is introduced to mankind through our having our being in Him (Joh 14:6). No man however can come to Christ to know him, unless the Father is dragging us to Him (Joh 6:44). Whether we continue in the truth that will set us free if we do (Joh 8:31-32), this is also something that is according to the counsel of God’s will, but only for the few (Mat 22:14) in this age to whom this verse applies (Rom 8:28). So the life that Christ created is the physical reality that we use to compare spirit with spirit, even as we see through a glass darkly (1Co 2:13, 1Co 13:12). If we don’t have God’s spirit within us to do this, those comparisons can never be properly seen. The life that Christ created was “the light of men”, but Christ also said that we can have light in us and be in darkness (Isa 9:2, Mat 6:23).

Act 17:28  For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. [“In him was life; and the life was the light of men”]

1Co 3:21  Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
1Co 3:22  Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
1Co 3:23  And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

Rom  8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Isa 9:2  The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

Mat 6:23  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

Joh 1:5  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Spiritually, the natural mind does not recognize its own blindness or comprehend the truth of God which is foolishness to the natural mind (1Co 2:14). ‘Blessed are you’, Christ told his disciples, because it has been given to you to see and to hear (Mat 13:16), as opposed to those who, in their spiritual blindness, cannot interpret the parables that are used to blind the masses and give light unto those who are given to understand their meaning (Mat 13:11-13).

1Co 2:14  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Mat 13:11  He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Mat 13:12  For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Mat 13:13  Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

When the eye is evil, the whole body is full of darkness (Mat 6:23) and the condition of the eye determines whether the body is full of light or darkness (Luk 11:34).

Luk 11:34  The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

Joh 8:43  Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

Christ explains that people cannot hear His word because they cannot receive what He says (Joh 8:43) and unbelief is part of God’s purpose, as well as mercy which is central to His dealings with all (Rom 11:30-33).

Rom 11:30  For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
Rom 11:32  For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
Rom 11:33  O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

The parable of the hundred sheep (Mat 18:12-13) illustrates that all sheep must be sought and brought back in an appointed order, as we are dragged to the good shepherd (Rom 2:3-4, Joh 10:27-29). The one gone astray represents the elect who are first judged in this life (1Pe 4:17) like the prodigal son going astray, and the son who stayed back at his father’s place is represented by the 99, two nines that witness that the world’s time of judgement will come later and will be administered by those who have already been judged (1Co 6:3). [10×10 a witness that it is all flesh that must be judged]

Mat 18:11  For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
Mat 18:12  How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
Mat 18:13  And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

Rom 2:3  And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?[God lowers the hedge in the life of his children as typified with Job and the prodigal son]

Joh 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Joh 10:28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Joh 10:29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

God’s elect as a kind of first fruits (Jas 1:18, Jas 3:17) of God are being sent as Christ was to save the world (Joh 20:21, Joh 3:17, Oba 1:21). By God’s grace His light shines in our lives and is saving us so that one day Lord willing, we will be used to save the rest of the world.

In the following weeks and months I hope to go through the book of John and learn of Christ, and how He is as His Father, and we are as Christ in this world because of the spirit of God that makes us one body with Christ as our head and God the Father as the head of Christ (Joh 14:20).

Joh 14:20  At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
