Who Walks To And Fro In The Earth?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi D____

Thank you for your kind words. I cannot tell you how satisfying it is to know that the Lord is opening a few eyes and ears to “read and hear the things written therein” and actually giving them the understanding that these are all things which we must all “keep” in our own lives.

Rev 1:3  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Mat 24:15  When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)

We have all been given physical eyes that see and ears that hear the secondary physical meaning of the words of scripture, but how few is it who are given spiritual eyes and ears, to see that the “abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet,” is even now “standing in the holy place” of the temple of our bodies, and our hearts and minds.

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Co 3:17  If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

How few understand that it is the old Mike Vinson and the old D____ who are “destroyed with the brightness of His coming?

2Th 2:3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Paul knows what he is saying in these verses because he taught these Thessalonians the exact same thing about what “the temple of God” is that he taught the Corinthians in 1Corinthians 3:16-17. He reminds these Thessalonians of that fact.

2Th 2:5  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6  And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

“That wicked one” who is “sitting in the temple of God” in 2Thessalonians 2:4 is the exact same “man defiling the temple of God” in 1Corinthians 3:17.

That truth will never sell books like pointing to some fabled endtime individual either in Europe or the Middle East. Jimmy Swaggart and the entire orthodox, Babylonian, Christian world have been blinded to the concept of “the time is at hand” inwardly, in every generation since Christ. But that is the truth of Christ’s own words in Matthew 24. “The end” is primarily within each of us and comes in every generation. The words “the end” do not pass away until heaven and earth pass away. The words “the end… the tribulation… the sun being darkened and the moon not giving her light…” are all applicable in every generations since Christ:

Mat 24:11  And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Mat 24:13  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Mat 24:14  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Mat 24:15  When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)

Mat 24:29  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Mat 24:32  Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer [is] nigh:
Mat 24:33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, [even] at the doors.
Mat 24:34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Mat 24:35  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

It is God’s Work, and He has made no secret of the fact that “many are called but few are chosen,” while yet in these vessels of clay (Mat 10:22).

Now to your question concerning the significance of the phrase “to and fro in the earth”. You say:

Please let me assure you that when you see a phrase repeated word for word, anywhere in the scripture, there is always great significance to anything that is repeated. Look at this statement which is made by Joseph concerning the twice repeated message of Pharaoh’s dreams:

Gen 41:17  And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:
Gen 41:18  And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:
Gen 41:19  And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
Gen 41:20  And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:
Gen 41:21  And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
Gen 41:22  And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:
Gen 41:23  And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:
Gen 41:24  And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.
Gen 41:25  And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

Joseph interprets Pharaoh’s dream in complete accord with all the rest of the Word of God, then here is what Joseph tells us a twice repeated statement means:

Gen 41:32  And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

Joseph is revealing the is, was, and will be nature of God’s Word for those who know that God’s Word never passes away and will be done in this generation.

Mat 24:33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Mat 24:34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Mat 24:35  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Now look at how often this phrase “to and fro in the earth” appears in scripture:

2Ch 16:9  For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Job 1:7  And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Job 2:2  And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Psa 107:27  They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.

Pro 21:6  The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.

Isa 24:20  The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

Isa 33:4  And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them.

Jer 5:1  Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

Jer 49:3  Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, [ and] his priests and his princes together.

Dan 12:4  But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

We live these words to King David in 2Chronicles 16:9 (Mat 4:4). When “the eyes of the Lord run to and fro” He is observing all that is evil in the earth, as well as all that is good. We, too, are always at war, and that is a blessing, it is not a curse. Had David been at war, as he was supposed to be, his affair with Bathsheba would never have occurred.

2Sa 11:1  And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
2Sa 11:2  And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

But that too, is God speaking to us and telling us that we, too, will “fall seven times and rise again.” Constant vigilance really is scripturally the price of freedom.

1Co 10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

1Pe 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about [“to and fro,” Job 1:7 and 2:2), seeking whom he may devour:

Eph 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

The “every wind of doctrine” is actually the voice of the roaring lion of 1Peter 5:8, and both go “to and fro in the earth.”

Where do we see the eyes of the Lord mentioned in the New Testament, and where are those eyes?

Rev 5:6  And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

The “eyes of the Lord” observe and direct all things, the good and the evil. So when we read:

Zec 4:10  For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel [with] those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

What are “the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the world? The seven spirits are the seven eyes of Zechariah 4:10. But they are also on something called “one stone” and they are also called seven lamps:

Zec 3:9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Zec 1:11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

That may sound good and peaceful, but look at how the Lord reacts to this report:

Zec 1:13 And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
Zec 1:14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
Zec 1:15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

So the four horsemen of Zechariah 1:10 and the “seven eyes of God” of Zechariah 4:10 do the exact same thing. Both go “to and fro through the whole earth. What else are “those seven… eyes of the Lord which run to and fro through the whole earth” called? Just look at what they are called in Revelation 5.

Rev 5:6  And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Who has Christ sent forth into all the earth? Here are His own words:

Luk 22:29  And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

Joh 20:21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

These seven spirits that are sent forth into all the earth, are Christ and those in whom He dwells and who have been sent into the earth by Him.

As I pointed out in a recent study in Revelation 5, the man on the throne in Revelation 4 is the same man on the throne in Revelation 5, and that man on the throne is Christ.

Rev 4:9  And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
Rev 4:10  The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Rev 4:11  Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Who created all things, and for whose pleasure with they created?

Col 1:13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Col 1:14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:
Col 1:15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Just as the Father is pleased to place His fullness in Christ, Christ has seen fit to place His fullness in His anointed.

1Jn 4:17  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

Who then is this lamb slain from the foundation of the world? This lamb is Christ’s lamb who was, with Him, slain from the foundation of the world:

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

When were we given this grace?

2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

So Christ is the seven spirits of God, the four horsemen, a stone with seven eyes, a lamb with seven horns and eyes, which go forth into all the earth.

What does all of this have to do with Satan going to and fro in the earth? Once we become aware that Satan is nothing more than a tool in the hand of God, to withstand Christ in us and to try us to show us what is in us, then we know that Satan has a necessary function in the plan of God, which the seven spirits which are sent into all the earth, oversee and direct and control.
You and I “fight the good fight of faith,” but Satan is nothing more than the necessary Adversary we must face in order to have a “good fight of faith.” Just as the old Adam, he will at his appointed time be “destroyed with the brightness of Christ’s coming” into our hearts and minds.

The fact that you have noticed that both the horsemen and the Adversary both go to and fro through the whole earth, tells me that God is beginning to show you that even the work of Satan in you and in me is actually the work of God, just as it was with Job.

I hope this all helps you to better see that God really is the Father of all spirits and He really is “working all things after the counsel of His own will.” Even the times when Satan walks to and fro in the earth which we are.

Eph 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Heb 12:9  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Above all I hope you can see that the fight we fight has a certain grand and glorious end, and that end is our “predestined inheritance in Christ.”

Your brother in Christ,

Mike
