Spiritually Eating and Drinking with the Drunken

Hi J____,
It is good to hear from you.
You ask about Mat 24:49.

Mat 24:49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

As you say, “Christ words are Spirit,” and He says “man… shall live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”. Since we are all men, we are those who “begin to smite our fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken”. The way we do this is in the same way anyone becomes drunk. We become drunk by abusing wine or strong drink, both of which are healthy when used properly. We become spiritually drunk when we abuse the Word of God, which we have all done during our stay in Babylon. Here is what the scriptures teach about our time in Babylon:

Rev 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

In our study on Rev 19:11-16 we discovered that Christ’s flesh and His blood were types of His Words.

Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Joh 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Christ’s doctrines and His words are His flesh which He calls “that bread which came down from heaven”. Both His flesh and His blood are types of His spiritual words. Here it is in this very same chapter, just four verses later:

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [ they] are spirit, and [ they] are life.

“The flesh profits nothing”. So physical flesh is not what Christ meant by “He that eats My flesh and drinks My blood”. What both mean are Christ’s words and His doctrines.
The same symbols are used to describe the doctrines of Babylon and the Pharisees.

Mat 16:11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

So when we read that the great whore of Babylon is “drunken with the blood of the saints” we know that she has rejected the doctrines of the saints, and has spiritually slain the prophets of God in doing so.

Rev 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

In Mat 24 this very same spirit of the great whore is called “eating and drinking with the drunken”, meaning those who are “drunken with the blood of the saints”.
It is by acknowledging that we are so blind that we are that man who killed our Lord, that we are granted forgiveness of doing so. As long as we deny doing so, our sin remains.

Joh 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
Joh 9:40 And [ some] of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
Joh 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

As long as we deny that it is we who have “eaten and drunk with the drunken” and we deny that it is we who “must… live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”, and as long as we refuse to repent of having “been drunk with the blood of the saints” while we were believing and teaching the doctrines of Babylon, we will be those who are “eating and drinking with the drunken”, and we will continue to be those who are “drunk on the blood of the saints”.
I hope this all helps you to understand the spiritual meaning of Mat 24:29.
Your brother in Christ,
Mike
