Identifying Trees – Part 4

[Study Aired December 31, 2021]

In Jude 1:12, when speaking of false prophets in the midst of us, it says the following:

Jud 1:12  These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear [feeding from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil]: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots

They think they are trees of knowledge, trees which can dispense knowledge of what is good and what is evil. Their fruit is withered and they are without fruit. Their knowledge withers under the truth, which shows they have no fruit. We have no truth, no water of the word, in these doctrines because they come from a carnal mind, (Eph 5:26). What we are from birth is evil fruit (dead fruit), and what comes from us is evil fruit (death – twice dead in this application). We do not know the way of life, we do not have life in us, and therefore when we speak about knowledge, it only comes from a grave, a place of the dead. Our outward religion may look beautiful and colored, but what is inside is dead, fruitless and rotting.

Apostle Paul just finished explaining to them who these false prophets were and how to identify them – by their works of the flesh.

Jud 1:11  Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain [#1], and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward [#2], and perished in the gainsaying of Core[#3].

Let’s look at these three trees and their fruit, in the order they were mentioned, because the order has to do with the order in which we are led to first be destroyed and then saved if we are the elect.

Gen 4:3  And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. [he presented to God an offering from the curse (Gen 3:17 -“cursed is the ground”), good works of the flesh]
Gen 4:4  And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereofAnd the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: [fruits of the spirit, not based on any work of the flesh, not corrupted by flesh]
Gen 4:5  But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respectAnd Cain was very wroth, and his countenance [H6440-paw-neem] fell.
Gen 4:6  And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance [H6440-paw-neem] fallen?
Gen 4:7  If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Gen 4:8  And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the fieldthat Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. [Mat 13:38 tells us that the field is the world, and it is the world within us that kills Christ because what He offers to the Father does not come from the flesh, and therefore He is DESPISED by my flesh.Joh 14:10]
Gen 4:9  And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
Gen 4:10  And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground
Gen 4:11  And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
Gen 4:12  When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
Gen 4:13  And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
Gen 4:14  Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face [H6440-Paw-neem] of the earth; and from thy face [H6440-again] shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
Gen 4:15  And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
Gen 4:16  And Cain went out from the presence [H6440-same as face] of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod [H776 and H5113- nation of vagrants and wanderers], on the east of Eden [H5731-pleasure].
Gen 4:17  And Cain [H7014-striking to erect-smith] knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch [H2585-dedicated-BDB]: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch [a city named after the work of his own hands, dedicated to the work of his own making].

These verses and the understanding of who Cain represents, our old man in religion, sent to toil in the land and bring forth a city we have built and dedicated to the working of own own hands. It is a city molded (a smith) after the work of our own hands. This is the reason we are sent from the presence of the face of God, because what we touch, we claim as our own work and our own toil. This is why Cain killed Abel.

Abel’s gift was not from the toil of his own hands but from the work of God in the creation of the very offerings he offered. Abel is a type of Christ Who offered what God had made and saw His works as the works of His Father and was killed by His own BROTHER, Cain, who hated him because His gift was righteous, and their gift was from the toil of their own hands; unrighteous fruit from a dead tree.

Joh 8:40  But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

Joh 14:10  Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Joh 17:8  For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

This is part of the “lasciviousness” Jude is explaining about the false prophets sneaking in to corrupt us as they feed with us. The fruit that comes from this type of tree they see as holding the truth of good and evil. These false prophets teach us to hate this truth that all things are by Christ, for Christ and by Him all things consist (Col 1:15-17). Instead they teach that good works come from our own hands, and they add, “If you’re a Christian”, but they actually mean the works are independent from Christ, as they sprinkle it with, “but God’s in control”. We build nothing and therefore have nothing to dedicate to God. Now, let’s look at Balaam.

Rev 2:14  But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Jud 1:11  Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

To eat things offered to idols is to eat fruit we think originates with us, growing on our tree of knowledge of what we see as good and what see as evil, worshipping ourselves as an idol.

They run greedily after the doctrine of reward, self righteousness. Balaam means, H1109- “not (of the) people”, “not of what people”? It’s not of the Israelites, the chosen and elected Israel of God; spiritual Israel.

Gal 6:16  And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

The fruit of the tree is “not of the people”, not from us, but grows as a creation of Christ in us, not the other way around. What is the doctrine of Balaam? It is reward. It is desiring a reward for the works of our own hands, as if the work is from our own hands, independent and separate from our Creator. However, this is a false doctrine teaching us that the fruit is “of the people”, good or evil, which is the exact opposite of what the truth tells us (Gen 2:9 “out of the ground MADE THE LORD GOD TO GROW”, “THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL. God made it grow, not man, “not of the people”, not from the doctrines of Balaam.).

Num 22:7  And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.

Num 22:15  And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
Num 22:16  And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
Num 22:17  For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.

Num 22:19  Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more. [He already knew what The LORD would say. God doesn’t change His mind, and says so in the next chapter, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. (Num 23:19-20but, because of the idol of his heart (Eze 14:4), God answered him accordingly, and gave him over to it. He wanted a reward and he is our old man, our old carnal min, who desires riches that exalt the man.]
Num 22:20  And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
Num 22:21  And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.

Because we are created very good (Gen 1:31) in seeking our own righteousness as sinning machines, and we don’t even know what we are, we go headlong into judgment. Balaam represents our old religious man who has a form of godliness but denies the power thereof, 2Ti 3:5 . We are taken in our own words and we are led headlong into judgment, being driven by our flesh.

The word of God is standing in our way, daily, waiting to deliver the blow that will put the final nail in the coffin, but our religion of self-glorification drives us headlong into the path of danger. Our own flesh, represented by Balaam’s ass, even knows that what is coming is dangerous for the flesh, but as a sheep to the slaughter we drive even our flesh to its utter destruction, listening to the calls of Balak (Satan – the waster, which is the meaning of the name Balak – H1111) and the promises of honor and riches (Gen 3:4-6). When we read the following verses, keep these thoughts in mind. Our minds tell us, “Do not go along with this false doctrine.” Our hearts tell us, “You’re being deceived.” It does not matter as we beat our flesh into subjection to drive headlong into the religion of reward.

Num 22:22  And God’s anger was kindled because he wentand the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him [The angel represents the spirit of God, holding the word of God in His hand]. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him [The two servants represent the witnesses we have enslaved to follow us and to confirm our false doctrine. They also represent the two warnings which were given that exposed what is in our hearts. and the ass represents our flesh.].
Num 22:23  And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way [even our flesh begins to give us warnings. We keep doing things that we know will bring judgment and yet we still beat the flesh to go on], and his sword drawn in his handand the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. [beating the flesh to follow us down our pernicious ways]
Num 22:24  But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
Num 22:25  And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
Num 22:26  And the angel of the LORD went furtherand stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
Num 22:27  And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. [Even our flesh sinks under the heavy load we are carrying called the man of sin. Even our own flesh wants to stop, but the religious man sitting on us and beats us until we submit to what he desires. Our very own flesh collapses under the pressure in sickness, physically or mentally.]

Num 22:28  And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
Num 22:29  And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. [If I were given the permission through the religion I am under to commit suicide, I would kill myself to make you listen to me.]
Num 22:30  And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
Num 22:31  Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.[when the flesh finally drops under the pressure of the man of sin, are our eyes opened]
Num 22:32  And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:
Num 22:33  And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
Num 22:34  And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me [The religious man is still blind, not confessing he knew not to go with the false doctrine, not confessing he was told not to go, yet his desire for reward was too strong for him.]: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
Num 22:35  And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men [Because the Spirit knows our hearts and knows even though we are rebuked, it is not enough. We want the reward at all costs.]: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

It’s the idols of the heart that are used by God to bring us to the truth through destruction of the false prophet who sits upon our beast. We go as we are led, to purify us from all false doctrine of reward, also know as freewill. It is in the doctrine of freewill we are rewarded for our own goodnesses, as though they came from us. When I was in my mid twenties I bound myself to a seven day fast, announcing it to those around me and thereby binding me to do what I said I would do. After the first day I was ready to break. My flesh was swerving to the right and to the left, but I kept whipping it until it listened. I got a cold about the third day, which was God standing in the way of the ass, but my man of sin beat the ass to keep going. I made it through the seven days, but it was a pure hell for me. In the end, I held my head up proud, like a spring rooster crowing, to herald the great achievement of my doctrine. I was proud that I had forced my flesh to listen and to bring my flesh under control.

I did it to stop certain habits I had at the time and believed that if I did the fast, God would REWARD me for my piousness. HE DID NOT! The habits continued right where I had left them and came back with a vengeance. What we want is reward for our flesh. We want fame, money, luxury for WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR THE LORD. This is what Jude meant in the verses we are covering when he said in verse 11 that these filthy false prophets, with false doctrines, “ran GREEDILY after the error of Balaam FOR REWARD

Now let’s consider Core or Korah in the old testament. What is the “gainsaying of Core”?

First, what is the definition of “gainsaying”?

To get a clearer view of what the word means, let’s see how it’s used in the four times it is used in scripture.

Total KJV Occurrences: 4
contradiction, 2
gainsaying, 1
strife, 1
Contradiction, strife, dispute, disobedience, and it’s from G483;
From G473 and G3004to disputerefuse: – answer again, contradict, deny, gainsay (-er), speak against.
Total KJV occurrences: 10

So to perish in the “gainsaying of Core” is to argue with the truth. Why do we, like Cain, Balaam and Core argue against the truth? For gain. What do we have to gain? Adoration, praise, pride, arrogance and whatever other self glorifying word you can come up with. Look at Korah’s argument against Moses, which is arguing against God.

Num 16:1  Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:
Num 16:2  And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
Num 16:3  And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

They did not like to be ruled by the truth spoken to them through Moses and Aaron. They did not like their service position. They wanted it all, and they wanted it now. They saw themselves righteous separate from Moses, because they could eat from the fruit of their own minds of what is good for them and what is evil for them. They were arguing for the body of Moses, the nation of Israel, (Jud 1:9)

Num 16:8  And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:
Num 16:9  Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them? [Is it not enough that you are called and elected? Now you want the throne, the priesthood? This is what we all want in our man of sin. We want to rule our own temple. We want to sit on high, be lifted up and think that all the truth runs out of us, which is the meaning of the names of Dathan and Abiram.]

Num 16:10  And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
Num 16:11  For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?
Num 16:12  And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:
Num 16:13  Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?
Num 16:14  Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

The name “Dathan” means the following:

Here is a verse that confirms that definition:

Jer 6:7  As a fountain casteth out her watersso she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

Next is the definition of Abiram:

Here is the breakdown of the name:

From these definitions it is easy to see that Abiram represents our man of sin who sees himself as the beginning of all things. He sees himself as the exalted beginning, the father of all things that has its origin in himself. He is lifted up in his own mind, and as Dathan, his brother’s name, reiterates, these thoughts of exaltation that come from within the man of sin are the fountains of the Babylonian whore whom we desire, that gush out of us.

Now that we have extensively covered the names and people who were mentioned in Jude 1:11, we can put the thought together. The Apostle Paul, driven by the Spirit of God, has shown us that the old man and the religious people who are religious and pious, are people who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. Denying that the power is from God and exists in us as free moral agents, eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil is denying the power of true godliness. We think we know what is best for our own lives when we did not even create the tree we are. We believe, that with help from God, we can add to the tree and bring forth good fruit from a corrupt tree.

2Ti 3:5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Denying the power thereof is denying the source of the power to live a righteous life. The Spirit of God shows us that these people are “trees whose fruit whithers, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots.” They seemingly have a good fruit, but in reality it is not good fruit, but evil fruit. It is a phony show of works that does not accomplish anything. They are deceived into believing it is fruit, and they honestly believe it’s fruit, but in their heart the thought is lying there, “I am responsible for my walk”, “I am required by God to be what I am and it is my strength that puts my boots on every day, not God. I must have self control (which the term itself is a contridiction to the truth).”

These people, these doctrines within us, are not open fornicators, open thieves, open riotous goons, but the kind of people you would like to be. I knew a man who fit the bill of this description. He was as crisp on the edges as one could get. His speech was perfect, he dressed very sharp, his manners were perfect, he did not smoke, drink, curse, use coarse jesting, and by all outward appearance was perfect. Yet he would argue with passion on the requirements of someone who is a Christian and the person using their free will to perfect themselves. Although he seemed to have an abundance of fruit, his fruit was not good fruit but tares and thorns. He was twice dead, his fruit withered and he had no fruit.

Now I see that man I just described was me. What appears to be fruit is actually withered thorns, and they are thorns because the tree cannot produce edible fruit to God. Why? Because God never made our trees, the flesh, to produce a fruit on its own that He would take pleasure in eating. What we bring forth in the flesh is not edible to God if we see it based on our will. He did not create us in the flesh to produce a good fruit. We are made to be taken and destroyed, be made dung/fertilizer, so that from that destruction the new tree will be created, and the fruit that God desires will grown on a new tree.

Jud 1:10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
Jud 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Jud 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
Jud 1:13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

“Foaming out their own shame” is arguing for my will, that fabled free will, self control. “Foaming out their own shame” is as an epileptic thrashing all over the ground foaming out the mouth. The word “foaming” is defined as:

This word is used in these two verses:

Mar 9:17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
Mar 9:18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth [G875], and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
Mar 9:19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
Mar 9:20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming [G875].
Mar 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
Mar 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
Mar 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
Mar 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Mar 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit [Exo 4:11], I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Mar 9:26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
Mar 9:27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
Mar 9:28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
Mar 9:29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Before we come to the truth, if we are the elect, and those to whom it is not given to know truth in this age are as this epileptic boy, who from birth were thrown all around by false doctrine, that at times it casts us into the fire where we are tormented by the word, and then into the waters, where we are drowned by God’s word in a doctrine. Whatever the doctrine, it does not see the truth as a truth, but as a torment. From this, false prophets are designed by God, to spew heresy out of their mouth as they shake uncontrollably and foam out of their mouth twisted words that seem to speak truth but in reality are the words of God twisted and distorted. Why? Because God has created them to do exactly that, for the purpose of keeping the masses from the truth in this age.

Pro 16:4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Mat 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
Mat 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

The wicked in me is made for my day of evil, and those without truth are made to keep people from the truth and to drown them in false doctrine and to cast them into the fire of false doctrine. I was made for my days of evil and foamed out false doctrine from my own mouth as I convulsed in tremors all around on the ground, my flesh. We all have our day of evil, but it is only the elect who are given to see that they are indeed as an epileptic, going into convulsions and foaming out the mouth. So, these false prophets are like the foam on the sea. It takes what comes from the world, the sea, and uses it to beat upon the rocks until the foam begins to show up. They ride upon the sea, the world, and have their existence on the sea, for without the world they could not exist. They are in essence the fruit of the world, foam hanging on the waves, the limbs, of the sea, the world. Whatever fruit we have, whether it be good or evil, it is from the Creator of all things. Whatever fruit we have exists because the Creator has ordained it to be so. And, whatever fruit we consistantly bring forth it is because all things consist by Him, Jesus Christ.

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

If we are given to desire truth, then we must be dragged to Christ, Who will, if we are the elect, create a new tree that produces fruit that is edible to the Father. It does not come from us, but is a creation of Christ in the tree we are, whether good or evil.
