Deuteronomy - Deu 7:1 Who Are the Canaanites?

Deu 7:1  When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

What are Canaanites and where did they originate? What do they mean to us spiritually?

Patrial from H3667; a Kenaanite or inhabitant of Kenaan; by implication a pedlar [Original spelling of peddler] (the Cananites standing for their neighbors the Ishmaelites, who conducted mercantile caravans): - Canaanite, merchant, trafficker.
Total KJV occurrences: 74

From H3665; humiliated; Kenaan, a son of Ham; also the country inhabited by him: - Canaan, merchant, traffick.
Total KJV occurrences: 93

A primitive root; properly to bend the knee; hence to humiliate, vanquish: - bring down (low), into subjection, under, humble (self), subdue.
Total KJV occurrences: 36

What we get from the definitions which make up the word "Canaanite", is a peddler or trafficker of humiliation. What did Canaan's father do to his father, Noah? Canaan is the beginning of the Canaanites. He humiliated him before the other brothers by exposing his nakedness (symbol for sin). Ham, Canaan's father, exposed Noah's sin and humilitiated him. We must never forget that the names of the principles in these scriptures are not just random names given. Every one of them is specific to the revealing of the mind of God.

Gen 9:20  And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
Gen 9:21  And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
Gen 9:22  And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.  (He humiliated his father by exposing his sin.)
Gen 9:23  And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward (Eph 2:11, Rev 1:12), and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
Gen 9:24  And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
Gen 9:25  And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. (Cursed is the man that exposes others' sins and does the same - Gal 3:10, Rom 2:1-4)
Gen 9:26  And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
Gen 9:27  God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

The spiritual lesson describes the name Canaanites as trafficking, selling, peddling humiliation. We are taught by scripture that literal sins of the flesh are open and before all people. The law itself exposes them; murder, adultery, stealing, lying, and coveting are fruits of the flesh. They are open and already exposed before the eyes of all.

Gal 3:10  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Rom 2:1  Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
Rom 2:2  But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. (The law has already condemned them so we don't need to point out their acts and humiliate them further. Their conscience does it already.)

Rom 2:15  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

Rom 2:3  And thinkest thou this, O man (Ham), that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

God does not need me to be a Canaanite and humiliate others by exposing their sin. They are already humiliated by their own conscience. The law which is written upon their heart accuses them already. When I point out their sin, I am becoming a judge of the law and not a priest. The judge, the law, condemns them and then we are there for the priesthood to offer comfort in the work of Christ, Who bore our sins, to stand as mediators of the new covenant.

Heb 9:14  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Heb 9:15  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

How are they called from condemnation into liberty?

Rom 10:14  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Rom 10:15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

They are called by Christ in us. Christ is the Mediator between them and their condemnation through the words He speaks through us. Man does not live by bread alone, fleshly conquering the inhabitants of our land (Num 14:9), but by every word of God which proceeds out of His mouth. His mouth is Jesus Christ, and we are The Christ in which these words are spoken to those who are dragged to the truth through the law.

I thought in Babylon I had conquered the people of my land, overcome my fleshly sins, but it was only an outward showing. This still did not bring me peace because I continually condemned others for doing what I did. I still wanted to do what they did, but I stopped so that I could work my way into heaven. God blinded me by my supposed freewill choices of stopping sin.

The Canaanite spirit we are discussing today is what I have lived out, and am fighting on a daily basis wanting to expose the sins of others by the law. The difference today from years past is that I have been shown this enemy in my carnal mind and am at war with him daily. Before he sat upon my throne as God, declaring he was God. Today he is on the earth, knowing that he but a short time. Christ in me is going through my land and exposing these nations as they hide in crevices in my land.

Col 2:18  Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels (false doctrines such as there is no literal 1000 year reign), intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Col 2:19  And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

There is a false humility that has tried to push its Canaanite spirit into the Body of Christ. It has a false humility doctrine that says that we are not special people to God from all the people of the world, that we are not kings and priests, even though scripture says we are;

Rev 1:6  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

1Pe 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Those who promote this false doctrine say, "There is no literal 1000 year reign. It's all spiritual" even though scripture says there is.

Rev 20:4  And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and THEY lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5  But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Some teach that Jesus Christ's sacrifice for His Elect was not good enough. They purport that because we MUST sin more than He sees, for this reason we must suffer the pains of the lake of fire EQUALLY with the rest of those who are in the lake of fire.

1Pe 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1Pe 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
1Pe 1:22  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Did you see those words clearly? "SEEING YOU HAVE PURIFIED your souls." Is it in the lake of fire that this purifying takes place? NO, it does not say that, it says, " obeying the truth through the spirit." We are purified, we are holy, we are elect, we are a special people to God who HAVE BEEN purified by the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Not by feigned humility in making ourselves part of the world so that we can be a better saint which has TO BE purified. He says we ARE purified, not going to be in the lake of fire as this evil corrupt doctrine dictates.

1Co 15:33  Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

We were not made free from sin ENOUGH in the eyes of such deceivers. We were not redeemed ENOUGH in their eyes, and we are not HOLY in Christ ENOUGH. This Canaanite spirit traffics, sells this doctrine, to its blinded followers in exchange of their crowns. Their followers are required, by this doctrine, to sell their crowns, to give up their reward in Christ so that they can be like the world. There are many Canaanite spirits which bring messages of freedom from this false humility. I know, because I have seen it in myself.

I have seen that lying spirit which feigns, or portrays, a humility that is not true. It robs others of their peace by pointing out their sins, exposing their sins to all and then like a serpent, slithers across the rocks into a den where their own sins are covered. This Canaanite spirit points out other's sins so they can feel better about what they know is in their own heart. "If I condemn us all into the lake of fire, then I will feel no shame about what I have covered up about myself." They know their sins. Their conscience is as much witness to their sins as it is to ours. Instead of running to the cross, they run to the fire of the lake of fire for their purification. The cross is not good enough and the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ, which is described as a "baptism of fire", cannot purify me from my carnality enough in this aion. It requires another aion of the lake of fire before I can be purified. This is their erroneous teaching.

Mat 3:11  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Mat 3:12  Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

This Canaanite doctrine is so deviant and slippery that it actually agrees with scripture like the serpent, but then adds to it a lie. He wraps up the truth in a lie so that you are taken by the appearance of the fruit - how it looks good for food, it is pleasant to the eyes and is able to make one wise, and so believing the lie, Adam and Eve ate of it.

Gen 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

The truth is we are sinners and have a carnal mind after we come to the knowledge of the truth, but the lie is we are not purified in this aion, this age while we are in the flesh. The scripture in Matthew says plainly about the indwelling of the spirit of Christ, and what it would do in the believer.

"He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire".

Having seen this plainly and without twisting what these scriptures say, we can plainly see, through the spirit of Christ, that we are purified NOW in this aion. We are purified now to whatever point Christ has desired until all the wheat which He has planted in my life is harvested.

Those holders of this 'no thousand years' doctrine are worried about the chaff, and the amount of tares in their lives in keeping them from the first resurrection. So, they created another doctrine which would allow them to appear humble, but in reality it is only a covering for their own personal sins of which they are aware. This is very clever of the enemy, but he has only done what needed to be done for removing the tares from our midst. God has used Satan to deceive them so that they could cover their sins and look like it was an honorable, humble thing to do. This doctrine is trafficking, peddling, selling and buying the image of the first beast and is sold by the second beast, and your allegiance to it requires your life and the mark to shine boldly from your right hand and forehead.

Rev 13:15  And it was given to it to give spirit to the image of the wild beast, that the image of the wild beast should be speaking also, and should be causing that whosoever should not be worshiping the image of the wild beast may be killed."
Rev 13:16  And it is causing all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, that they may be giving them an emblem on their right hand, or on their forehead,
Rev 13:17  and that no one may be able to buy or sell except the one having the emblem of the wild beast, or its name, or the number of its name."
Rev 13:18  Here is wisdom. Let him who has a mind calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is the number of mankind, and its number is six hundred sixty-six."

We were told firmly that it was a matter of life and death. What life, what death? If everyone gets the same socialist equal reward and there is no reason to strive for the mark, then why strive? "If we are all going to the lake of fire, we are all going to be kings and priests, we are all equal, then what's the big deal? Why strive for the high calling if the calling is not high?"

Php 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Php 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Php 3:15  Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
Php 3:16  Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

Phillipians 3:12 admits we are not perfect in the flesh and have not attained a perfection in the flesh, but we follow after perfection that we may apprehend perfection more and more until we are perfected on the third day. Perfection comes to its full in our literal ORDINAL death. After death I am resurrected in the perfection of Christ.

Verse 13 says that although I am apprehending perfection more and more, I am not perfect yet, but I forget the imperfections that are behind and reach for the prize in verse 14 for the MARK of Christ, the high calling of being found with a name that not even one fleshly man woman or child knows. "No man"- G3762 knows because no flesh and blood can enter the kingdom of God. Verse 15, let as many that knows this, as many that be perfect in this truth, be understanding of this truth. He calls those things that be not as though they were.

Rom 4:17  (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Rom 4:18  Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

If in anything we are otherwise minded, God will show it to us as we grow in grace during THIS AION. The fire of the baptism of fire which we are enduring now is purifying us now in this aion by showing us where we need to be perfected and where we are in error. When we are in error in doctrine, and we are the elect, God will show us where we are in that error. Verse 16 tells us that to the point we have been purified, let us walk, knowing that there is more to be purified. Never forget that we will never be perfected until after the 'third day'. Christ will perfect us to the point He desires until we have grown to the mature stature of the member of the body that we are predestined to be.

There is no later perfection after our resurrection because we will be in Christ and will be known even as we are known. We will be what He has called us when we were not yet what He called us.

The Canaanite spirit in us loves the preeminence as does the Amorite, because it likes to peddle this product to the flesh, so the flesh can give a showing in the flesh of a false humility. It loves to sell a lie to cover the sin which is under the surface that no man can see. We do not need to worry about what we can see but about what we cannot see. Judas walked with Christ for 3 1/2 years, and yet he was never with Christ. He cast out demons, did miracles, went out evangelizing in the Israelite area, yet he was a son of perdition from the beginning. The other eleven apostles never knew what was in his heart. Christ knew yet He left Judas alone until the time of revealing. Why? Because Judas still was used by God to teach the others to learn from what Judas was, to learn to recognize what a Judas spirit looked like. Judas was used by God to betray Christ for the good of the body, so that Christ would be crucified and resurrected. God will use the Judases of the world to crucify us, so that in the end we are killed and then resurrected in more knowledge of the truth.

Act 1:16  Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
Act 1:17  For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

The Canaanite spirit is very evident in Judas. However, we must not focus on Judas as the evil man but at ourselves as Judas. We would have done the same thing and have done the same thing as Judas. Never let a root of bitterness take hold against those who have left our fellowship, for they left because scripture needed to be fulfilled. If it were not for the mercy of God, I would have gone, too, but God had mercy on me and you. The Canaanite spirit is very tricky, very subtle because it portrays itself as an angel of light, as an angel of knowledge, an angel of humility but its truth is exposed when the light of Christ is shown upon it. It peddles its lie because it needs company. It's alone in the dwelling of the dead, on the island of the Gadarenes, and it thinks, "If I get more people to believe my doctrine, then it must be true, and it will seer my conscience from the sin I know I am doing." May God have mercy on all of us that we do not buy this lie. Those who strive to be rich are warned;

1Ti 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Ti 6:9  But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Next week, LORD willing, we will cover who the Perizzites represent.
