Can Art Be Used To Glorify God?
Thanks, Mike.
“I can do all things through Christ” are my favorite words in the Scriptures – in the world. Thank you for your prayers.
On a side note: I am an artist (theatre, film, music). Though I am prepared for the fact that I will probably not make a living from art (especially the art I produce that shares the Truth of Christ)…. I see it as my passion. In the arts, I can express experiences, revelations, etc. and find great joy in doing this. I usually conceive artistic projects from spiritual happenings and Christ and man’s process of knowing Christ…. man’s struggles/ the lost man. Is this rational? To feel such an urge to share/ communicate/ dialogue in this fashion? Do the arts have a place in “the called.” I don’t know why, but this has been troubling me for more than a year now. Is an artist sharing Truth similar to a writer/ speaker like yourself sharing Truth? N____
Hi N____,
Praying for you is the least I can do. We all need each others support:
Gal 6:2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
1Th 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
I am certain that your question about your art in very clear in your own mind, but art is such a vague and undefined word these days that it is not at all clear to me exactly what you mean by your kind of art. I would be interested in exactly what you do to communicate Christ through your art.
In the meantime, I will only say that God alone knows your heart. Here are His own words of advice concerning all that we do:
1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
We live in liberty from sin. That, I think you are well aware, is not to be confused with the liberty to sin.
Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Please do not mistake this as an accusation of any kind. It is simply my attempt to give you a general scriptural answer about something I really think I need to know more about.
You are still in my prayers.
