During part 3 of the “Awesome Hands” study, we have looked through the beginning of the sovereignty of Gods will in our lives in relation to how He works us in His hands.
We can see the start of this as we look at the foundation that has been laid, and that is Christ in us our hope of Glory. Starting from the foundation of the world, the law of Moses, the prophets and psalms have always spoken about Christ.
As such, we are starting to dive into the various scriptures and scenarios that show us this plan as it has been taught to us in the admonitions we can learn and see in both the old and new testaments.
We always initially want to go back to the vomit and mud that the Lord has saved us from, but we too will come to see that we can do NOTHING without Christ.
Joh 15:1 – I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Joh 15:2 – Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Joh 15:3 – Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Joh 15:4 – Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
Joh 15:5 – I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Joh 15:6 – If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
One way or another, we are going into the fire to burn away all wood, hay and stubble…. now or later or maybe both but we all will be saved by this same fire!
1Co 3:11 – For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1Co 3:12 – Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Co 3:13 – Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
1Co 3:14 – If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15 – If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
The raven and the Dove
This study, we will be starting with Gen 8:9 to see how Noah and the dove play significant roles in our spiritual lives as we come to see the awe inspiring power of the work of the hands of the Lord in our lives. We will continue to dissect and look for guidance and inspiration in the next few scriptures lined up in this study.
We just read that we will be saved by fire. So, what led up to this and how do we see this play out spiritually in our lives? There is nothing better than the Living Word of God to speak for itself. With spiritual eyes and ears we know that all these admonitions and things as they happened to Noah, are for our admonition and understanding now, as it applies to the Christ.
Gen 8:5 – And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
Gen 8:6 – And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
Before we get into Gen 8:9 where Noah “puts forth His hand the second time”, I want to point out the laid foundation [ point out Christ] as Noah [ us, His body] is being directed in the story. Just like in the story of Adam and Eve, Eve first took of the fruit and gave it to her husband, and then we see later that the Lord doesn’t want us to put forth our hand and eat of the tree of Life.
With the next verse in the list of God’s awesome hands working in our lives, I want to point out that the ark which saved Noah and His family was built with Noah’s own hands and at the Lords direction.
In not so many words, it means that we are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling KNOWING that it is the Lord who works in us both to WILL and to do His good pleasure. Noah, in type and shadow and as our admonition teaches us what our calling is.
We are to build a tabernacle of the Word of God, one built upon Christ and the apostles, one which rises above the sea, earth and the all the mountains. It is the “good pleasure of the Lord,” and we’ll see just what that means with this study, Lord willing.
Php 2:12 – Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence , but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 – For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
What exactly is “his good pleasure?” Let’s dive into the Word and find out.
Php 2:13 – ForG1063 it isG2076 GodG2316 which workethG1754 inG1722 youG5213 bothG2532 to willG2309 andG2532 to doG1754 of G5228 good pleasure. G2107
The word his isn’t even in this verse and it almost obscures the meaning of this verse in English.
The Greek word is, huper and I want you to look closely at what this word means. It means above, not of. Once we read a few of the verses that constitute the sum of His Word, we will get a clearer understand as the Lord gives us eyes to see and ears to hear:

1Th 2:13 – For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
I think we can see that the Lord is working in us, in our lives now as judgment is upon us, and He is working that which above, His good pleasure. To the Lord, the night and the day are alike and the evil and good are created as God has purposed them…they are good!
We that in mind, and knowing the ark represents our salvation as it is worked above those things that will be flooded in our lives early in our Christian walk, let us see how the Lord works His hands into our lives as He brings the earth, the church back within our walk with Him.
Gen 8:7 – And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
Gen 8:8 – Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
Gen 8:9 – But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
I think we all get the picture that the earth that Noah and His family once knew is no longer going to be recognizable. The raven is sent to go to and fro (sounds like one of the lions I know) until the waters are dried up from off the earth.
Listen, we all need water as the church. There is an adversary that is seeking continuously to devour us and he does not and will not stop because the Lord has created him to be “good” at what he does.
The dove however, is sent to SEE if the waters were abated, gone down or the same meaning as being cursed, from the face of the earth. The dove is what we bring back into ourselves, where our dwelling is.
When Christ was baptized by John, it was a dove that came down because there wasn’t much to burn up just as there wasn’t much to burn up on the earth since the Lord has just flooded everything, but when the church…. the body was being established, the fire from heaven came down mightily!
Mat 3:16 – And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Act 2:1 – And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 – And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 – And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 – And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.Gen 8:10 – And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;
Gen 8:11 – And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
Gen 8:12 – And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.
Gen 8:13 – And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
Gen 8:14 – And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
When the Lord starts working in our lives and we have been put through the baptism of the red sea, or the baptism of the ark that sets us free from the old world we came from, it takes time for the church that we are coming into to materialism within us.
Remember, we are in the ark but the raven is still doing his work. He is doing it until the earth be dried up. Once we see the process finished for God saving us from our bondage, He again starts working with us:
Gen 8:15 – And God spake unto Noah, saying,
Gen 8:16 – Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
Gen 8:17 – Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
Gen 8:18 – And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:
Gen 8:19 – Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
See, when God preserves us it doesn’t clean the inside of the cup. It merely shortens the day so that those that have been called, just as Noah had been called to build an ark and just as we are called to be fisherman of men [ fishermen usually fish from a boat], can move onto the next part of the process for them in the Lord’s plan.
When Noah and his family as preserved, so is everything on the inside of the cup. When we go to the Lord and we come to babylon, we do so because we call out in our distress and the Lord drags us to Him. Just as the Lord saves Noah with the ark, we too go through our own baptism that will HEAL the deadly wound we are given that causing us to call on the Lord in the first place.
Noah is instructed to take ALL the beasts WITH HIM to replenish the earth! So, what does Noah do? Well, in his wisdom he builds an altar and made a sacrifice. In this part of our walk, as those chosen to follow the Lord, we want to sacrifice to Him. In this type and shadow and as the Lord works His good pleasure in us, it becomes a sweat savour unto the Lord for we are His inheritance!
Gen 8:20 – And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
Gen 8:21 – And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
Gen 8:22 – While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
The Lord will never again bring this same great earthquake to our lives. It has worked its work in us. The ground, the flesh that is working its law in our members no longer needs to be dealt with, as now we are going within, where the spiritual man is. The dove has come into the inside with Noah, but though we are going to gain MEAT now…. not just the herbs of the word, we are still not permitted to have TRUE LIFE, True manna from heaven.
We can see this in our next and last two versus today as we wrap this part of awesome hands up.
Gen 9:1 – And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Gen 9:2 – And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
The Lord is finally giving us dominion over the beasts that plaque our land. He has given them to us for meat, but we are not permitted to their blood.
Gen 9:3 – Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Gen 9:4 – But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Gen 9:5 – And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
Gen 9:6 – Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
Gen 9:7 – And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
Gen 9:8 – And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
Gen 9:9 – And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;
Of course, we all know that when the Lord says don’t do it, we do it. So, we know with the verses above that the Lord id going to use the very beasts that He has put in our hands for our nourishment to turn on us and redeem the blood that the Lord is owed.
When we truly move on to being full of faith, as the Lord permits and wills it, He will work His heavenly thoughts above so that the principalities and powers that be will do their work in us!
Praise God because this is a covenant that has been made with everyone that is of Noah’s seed.
Conclusion of Part 4
Lord willing, we have seen that the “Awesome Hands” of the Lord, as shown to us in the story of the flood, are there to rescue us from our history and the “world” that has been corrupted. Once we are given salvation via the ark, the way out that the Lord has provided for us, we are then going to be nourished by and also devoured by the beasts that the Lord preserved with us while we were in the ark.
Praise the Lord that He has given us a dove to guide us, to bring into the ark so that we know what to do next. It is a process, but it is a sweet smelling savor to the Lord as He works out of us the things that the blood on our hands are required to happen.
God has made a covenant with us that says He will finish the work in us that He has founded in the Christ, since the foundation of the world.
In part 5, we will continue to look at the next scriptures dealing with God’s awesome hands working in our Way, Truth and Life with Jesus the Christ. Join in next study as we see what the Lord has prepared for us at His altar as we see what we can learn from Abram and Lot’s departures from one another in Gen 13:9.
