What Is The Gospel? Part 1

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

by Ayo Fabiyi

Good day to you,
I am Ayo Fabiyi, a labourer in the gospel of our Lord. Thank you for your question.
You asked:

I have noticed lately amongst the blogs and websites of orthodoxy a great controversy regarding the seemingly simple question “What is the Gospel”? It is very entertaining to see all the efforts being made to define and corral this biblical concept from within the halls of the seminaries and denominational think tanks. Would you please, from an Is, Was, Will Be perspective, state your concise answer to this question? I apologize in advance if this has been directly addressed previously.

First of all, it is no surprise that in the world of orthodox Christianity, definitions of what the gospel is changes from one denomination to the next. What they all will agree upon is that the gospel itself means good news, good tidings. Here are the Greek translations of the English word “Gospel”.

Greek 2098
εαγγλιον Pronunciation
yoo- ang- ghel’- ee- on
from the same as2097; a good message, i. e. the gospel:– gospel.
Greek 4283
προευαγγελζομαι Pronunciation
pro- yoo- ang- ghel- id’- zom- ahee middle voice from 4253and2097; to announce glad news in advance:- preach before the gospel.
Greek 2097
εαγγελζω Pronunciation
yoo- ang- ghel- id’- zo from 2095 and 32; to announce good news (“evangelize”) especially the gospel:– declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel).

Those are ‘letter’ definitions above, but the WHAT the actual good news is, and HOW it is fulfilled is something that all orthodox Christian eyes cannot see or hear, and it cannot enter into their carnal heart. Though innumerable hours are spent in those halls of seminaries and many religious ‘think tanks’ in the world, the scriptural truth is that none will ever come to the knowledge of what that gospel is.
That is true because we are told that it is hidden from their sight, just as it was first hidden from you and I in whatever denomination we were first called into as part of the orthodox Christian religion. This is when our minds were still blinded by the religious world, being instructed by the princes/ pastors/’think tanks’ of the day.

1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, [… Jesus Christ, the wisdom and power of God..] they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Those things “God has prepared” are all inclusive in what the scripture calls “the gospel” of Jesus Christ. It is hidden from natural eyes, hence many until this day are ever learning the scriptures but never able to come to the knowledge of what is the gospel.

1Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world[…. through seminaries, think tanks, defiled religion, false teachers and false prophets of Christianity…] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The “god of this world”, through whom the eyes of their understanding and the minds of many are blinded, is revealed to us, and we need not speculate who they are whose “minds have [ been] blinded”. These are they that preach “another Jesus” with “another spirit” bringing false teachings, “another gospel”, which could not be further from the truth, as far as it can be from good news/ tidings.
But the great miracle in all this is that their yet carnal minds perceive such atrocious messages, such abominable doctrine and such absolute horror as “gospel”, and yet so many are led by it as we were all first a captive audience and worshipers to it.

2Co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Who is “he that cometh” preaching another Jesus…”another spirit”..”another gospel”…?

Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If ANY MAN preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

What “Man”…?

2Co 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
2Co 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

So now, the scriptures have shown us that there is another gospel out there to beware of, powered by another spirit masquerading as the gospel of Jesus Christ, preached by “men”….”false apostles” and false “ministers”.
The scripture itself reveals the true gospel preached by the apostles of our Lord; what it is, how it is scripturally defined and as your question asked:

Would you please, from an Is, Was, Will Be perspective, state your concise answer to this question.

The holy spirit of God through His word will give us a concise answer when we ask. Here is one:

Rom 1:15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the GOSPEL to you that are at Rome also.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the GOSPEL of Christ: [.. What is this gospel…?] FOR IT IS the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

There it is in a concise manner.
What is the gospel? “ IT IS the power of God unto salvation”.
The good news, the gospel is the SALVATION OF ALL MEN. Let us cover this in a more comprehensive scope as it is inclusive of many other doctrines summarized in the word “gospel”. It includes the milk doctrines and stronger meat doctrines of God’s love.
The gospel of Jesus Christ has been hidden from the eyes of many people from ages and generations, and is now revealed to the Lord’s few chosen saints in the four corners of the earth.
The gospel of Christ is UNTO SALVATION, not the false, satanic doctrine of eternal hell torment of unbelievers/ sinners in literal fire of orthodox Christianity. This false gospel does nothing but paint our Lord and God the Father as the ultimate evil despot, tyrant, liar, unloving and heartless, who is so powerless to abandon 99.99% of His created children in literal fire to burn with absolutely no redemptive purpose! According to this abominable teaching this burning will be endured by such sinners for trillions times millions unlimited, unending ages plus more with no end or purpose in sight!
It is the depth of Satan and his monsters/ ministers.
Yet, we have thousands of denominations and billions of ‘Christians’ today all around the world, televangelists, great and small worldly churches with many sincere followers whose minds are blinded and have the audacity to continue to sell this “gospel” as good tidings/ news to men? What a miracle of deception and what strong delusion!
Nowhere in Holy scripture is this false demonic gospel preached by any of the apostles. Search the scriptures diligently, and may the Lord give understanding to whoso reads to comprehend and see the powerful, wonderful, and greatest display and manifestation of God’s Love in the true gospel hidden to natural minds.
The true gospel has been foretold from the mouth of the Old Testament prophets and established even before the world began, and preached before by God to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Here is the gospel preached from early on in scripture.

To Abraham:

Gen 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
Gen 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
Gen 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

To Isaac:

Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

To Jacob:

Gen 28:13 And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
Gen 28:14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

This gospel of the New Testament is based upon that which Jesus Christ comes to declare and fulfill. This is the true apostle of our Lord, and Paul tells us that these Old Testament verses are “the gospel”, and we will do well to diligently listen and hold fast to his revelation:

Gal 3:8 And the SCRIPTURE, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the GOSPEL unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

In Abraham, signifying in Christ, shall ALL NATIONS BE BLESSED. That blessing is the justifying salvation of “the heathen”, “the Gentiles” who know not God. This is all men before being brought to God from all corners of the earth in all ages.

Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
1Th 4:5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

This is the scripture, the gospel delivered to God’s elect of all ages. The power of God unto Salvation.
But of whose salvation? To only those who of their supposed ‘free will’ choose to believe…? No! To the heathens and Gentiles, to the Jews first and then to the Greek (meaning Gentiles).

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

The gospel of our Lord in scripture always concerns the salvation of souls, whether it is talking about the timing, the means, the order, the channel, the workers, the obstacles, the adversaries or ultimately the end purpose of salvation, the creation of the New Man in the express image of God. That is the goal of gospel of our Lord.

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
1Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, [ not of men or seminars or religious denominations..] which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

“The gospel whichI preached unto you,….. by which also ye are saved”

So the gospel is the means by which we will be saved, WHEN it is delivered through preaching and revealed to us and is received into our new hearts. All these steps are crucial to the salvation of our souls.

1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how THAT Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Christ died for “our sins” …. was buried… and rose again the third day” IS ALL ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE, not history according to men. It is for our sins, thus including all sinners in Adam, in their generation and in their appointed time.
But what makes this gospel hidden and not revealed until the appointed time for each man, is that Christ’s physical death of the flesh did not save anyone 2000+ years ago. The salvation of our souls is the end goal of our faith, being redeemed/ rescued/ saved/ delivered from our sins, the body of sin and body of death. It is basically being saved from death. The gospel is the good news of our salvation, meaning our deliverance from the carnal mind and its earthly, flesh and blood terrestrial vessel of death.
Saviors deliver from “death”. We first are in a realm of ‘death’, in sins and trespasses before being delivered from it. The spiritually dead are first held in a place which is called in the hidden tongues (of “parables, hidden wisdom, dark sayings”, all spiritual words) the grave, pit, tomb, heart of the earth, Hebrews ‘Sheol’ and Greek translated as ‘Hades’, which most English bibles translated as “hell”. The meanings of these words are hidden from the sight/ understanding of orthodox Christianity.
Spiritually, this is where we all are first held while dead in our sins and trespasses, before the coming of our savior Jesus Christ at the predestined appointed time to deliver us/ save us/ redeem us all. Spiritually, and scripturally it is all the same as raising us from the spiritually dead.

Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the [ spiritually] dead bury their dead.

‘Savior’ is the meaning of the name Jesus.

Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus Christ died according to scripture, and the fulfillment of this death and His being raised from the dead within each man will be in their “due time”, their due order of salvation.

Rom 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, IN DUE TIME Christ died for the ungodly.

(Please see the paper entitled “in due time” on the IWWB Website that covers in greater details this topic and order of salvation.)
This is the gospel Paul is declaring to us today. We are saved by it so as to not remain in our sins. We must believe and live out this very doctrine central to the gospel, the resurrection of the spiritually dead.
(The Milk doctrine ofresurrectionfrom the dead covers this on the site. http:// iswasandwillbe. com/ Resurrection_Pe_1. php)
If we do not believe the sum of God’s word, instead of believing as the entire orthodox Christian world teaches, then our faith also is in vain!

1Co 15:12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?…………
1Co 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

Those who preach another gospel of eternal hell and eternal torment in literal fire of spiritually dead sinners as themselves, or any such form of demonic gospels, are “yet in [ their] sins.”
All men are in the flesh of Christ, and Christ is, was and will be raised from the dead bringing all men to God the Father. Not believing that is to not believe Christ is raised from the dead.
Such faith stands yet in the wisdom of men, not the power of God unto salvation. 1Co 15 verse 22 and 28 declares the end point of WHAT the gospel is;

1Co 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
1Co 15:22 For as in Adam ALL die, even so in Christ shall ALL BE MADE ALIVE.
1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

The is, was and will be perspective of the salvation of all men – the gospel – is that in “due time”, “every man in his own order” will be saved from their sins, saved from the death that is the first man Adam. The end goal is that God will be all in all. This is the truth of the gospel hidden from ages and generations.

1Co 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

“God … all in all” is another concise definition of the good news. But knowing the end does not mean the full process to that end goal is revealed in fullness now, or that we have attained to that perfect goal to be in the express image of the Last Adam, Jesus Christ. This process is a dying daily to sin event, within the heart manifesting outwardly in our walk, the way we live, until we reach the final destination to God, the salvation of our souls.

1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

Even until today, many are still searching for this hidden gospel whereby they may be saved. It is a mystery, a secret, revealed to few now at their due time, in their own order and in the ages to come ALL who are yet in unbelief, abiding in ‘death’ will be partakers of the life of Christ through THIS GOSPEL.
The greatest, wonderful news ears will ever hear and greatest gift to all men is this gospel.

Eph 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Eph 3:4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
Eph 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; [… What is that mystery of the gospel..?]
Eph 3:6 That the GENTILES should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by THE GOSPEL.

A few verses earlier, the mystery, the true gospel is written in a few words;

Eph 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
Eph 2:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

That is the summary of what the gospel is. To gather together in ONENESS, UNITY, all men in Christ, our only hope of glory in due time and order. Search all of the epistles, and you will see the end goal of the gospel written therein. Here are a few more along with those above preached to the Galatians, Corinthians and Ephesians.
First from Christ himself in the days of his flesh in this famous parable;

Luk 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
Luk 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Rom 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
1Ti 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.!!
1Ti 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us- ward, [.. the sinners..] not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
1Jn 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

The end is that God will be all in all, and the former things of death are passed away. What great wonderful news in this verse, the end of all flesh!

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words [.. THIS GOSPEL..] are true and faithful.

As I said earlier, the gospel is good news to the new man of the spirit. However, we must be reminded to be balanced in our preaching, and not shun to declare the whole counsel, gospel of God regarding what is the gospel.

Act 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

The gospel comes at a great cost to the old man Adam, and that price is the loss of all that he possesses, his very life!
The gospel is doom to the natural man who is naturally antagonistic to God. Mankind’s will is enmity against God and is defaulted to abide in the realm of death. Hence to be delivered, saved from sins and trespasses, the gospel comes with great trials and tribulations. It is not a popular doctrine that can be received by very many, but to whom God grants to receive it. “Los[ ing] our life” is not something that is heard in another gospel, which is not another, but it is a perverted gospel of Christ where many are so quick to run and so are soon removed from the truth of Christ.

Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

But losing our carnal life is the means to the salvation of our souls. That is what the gospel preaches. We have scripturally shown what it is, the end goal, but how to perform and arrive there is given to even fewer men to receive!

Mar 8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
Mar 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

It will be through much tribulation of losing our life, an is, was and will be process of dying daily, being partakers of the afflictions of the gospel, that we will eventually be saved, that is, enter fully into the kingdom of God.

Act 14:21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith,[… the faith of the gospel of Jesus christ…]and that we must through much tribulation[..”lose his life…”for gospel’s sake”…]enter into the kingdom of God.
2Ti 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
1Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;…. to verse 31;
1Co 15:31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

It is counter- intuitive to the natural man to stand in a gospel, a good news and yet still be “dying daily”…”lose his life”!
But the hidden truth is that being “partaker of the afflictions of the gospel” is the mode of operation of the power of God working in those chosen unto salvation.

2Ti 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

That power of God is working a good work in those receiving the true gospel;

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Salvation is not an instantaneous event or a few seconds “sinner’s prayer”. That is the more carnal display of the “another spirit” of “another gospel” of a perverted gospel of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is an event that takes a lifetime of losing one’s worldly, carnal life in the appointed order of God.
It is the hardest, most difficult trial one will go through in the birth of the new man and death of the old. It is impossible for any man, hence it can and will only be done through the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
Few are chosen to partake of this fiery event, ( is,) while in this flesh. The means of fulfilling the gospel to the majority of mankind will be through the chastening grace of the lake of fire in the age to come. Every man in their due time and order. The end however, is good to all, as God becomes all in all through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The process of fulfilling the gospel is yet ongoing to those that are called, chosen and remaining faithful unto the end, to receive salvation of their souls and become a channel to be saviors to the old Testament prophets and men of faith, also to allthe rest of mankind.
This is the gospel reported unto us.

1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the GOSPEL unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

Which things are…

1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

It is “one event” which will be worked in all sinners, few now and many in the age to come.

Ecc 9:2 All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

I pray that your question has been answered in a balanced way, and that you are able to see the false gospel of many preachers, speaking many harsh things against our loving Heavenly Father contrasted with what the true gospel really reveals about our God.
The only wise God, who has a plan, a process and end goal/ purpose working it all through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I have given but a brief glance at the means, and the channel whereby that good news preached by the true apostles of our Lord will be fulfilled in all men.
Now my prayer for those whose due time and order is now is;

Eph 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Mysteries are not openly displayed to all but are hidden truths in spiritual words and parables to be received of a few chosen. We need great boldness to make this gospel known, and I pray the Lord continues to grant you and I the boldness to loose our carnal mind/ life, to boldly declare and live by His true gospel.

Your brother in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Ayo Fabiyi.
