Is The Term “Christ’s Christ” Scriptural?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi J____,

Thank you for your question concerning the scriptural basis for using the phrase, ‘Christ’s Christ.’

The King James translation uses the words “the Lord and His Christ” when speaking of Christ’s Christ.

Here is Peter telling us that Christ is “both Lord and Christ”:

Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

With this understanding we are now able to understand the meaning of what Peter was saying when He said this of Christ and His disciples who were being persecuted right after the death of Christ:

Act 4:23 And being let go, they [Peter and John, vs 19] went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
Act 4:24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
Act 4:25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
Act 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

Peter told us in Acts 2 that Christ is “both Lord and Christ”, but here he is telling us that the Lord also has “His Christ”.

It is Christ Himself who twice tells us who we are if only we are given eyes that see and ears that hear:

Mat 25:40 And the King [Christ] shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Act 22:8 And I [Saul of Tarsus] answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

If indeed we are “Jesus of Nazareth” as Jesus of Nazareth says, then we are those who are ‘anointed… Christ[ed]’ to be the saviors of this world, just as Christ was sent to do:

Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

What are we plainly told Christ’s Father anointed, and sent Him to do?

Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but [He sent His Son into the world] that the world through him might be saved.

Which all accords with this prophecy:

Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.

As Saviors we are anointed kings and priests of the Lord:

Exo 28:41 And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

1Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him [King David] in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

These are our offices as the anointed kings and priests of Christ:

Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

So now we know the meaning of the phrase “the Lord and His Christ” when we see it in the New Testament:

Act 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

Rev 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

I hope this helps you to understand that we are the Lord’s Christ, the anointed of Christ, the Christ of Christ.

Your brother and fellow part of the Christ of Christ, Mike
