Deu 7:1 Driving out the Hittites

Deu 7:1  When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

Beginning with this study we will examine who these seven nations are within our promised land, what the word "into" means and what the word "nations" means. How does all this apply inwardly to us, and how can we see these nations or spirits in us?

First, we must never forget what the words at the beginning of this verse say, "when the LORD thy God shall bring thee".  It puts the emphasis on the One doing the "bringing". It must always start and end with the Alpha being Christ and the omega being Christ. Anything less than that and we are making a covenant with the nations within our lands. The reason why He tells us in verse two not make a covenant with these nations is that He is showing us that within ourselves they should be utterly destroyed and WITHOUT MERCY.

אֶל     אֵל
'êl    'el
ale, el
(Used only in the shortened constructive form (the second form)); a primitive particle, properly denoting motion towards, but occasionally used of a quiescent position, that is, near, with or among; often in general, to: - about, according to, after, against, among, as for, at, because (-fore, -side), both . . . and, by, concerning, for, from, X hath, in (-to), near, (out) of, over, through,to (-ward), under, unto, upon, whether, with(-in).
Total KJV occurrences: 5446

The reason I bring this word "into" to our attention is to show that it is speaking of several positions in our walk. It's a motion "toward" defeating the inhabitants by a "quiescent" position. Quiescent denotes being a place of rest or repose without agitation. Into also means with or among or about.

So our walk in Christ is in a motion toward defeating the enemies in our land by a motionless, quiet rest on our part, knowing that Christ is our sword, which we learned in our last study was "bringing every thought into the obedience of Christ"; not our obedience but His. We remain in a still small place (1Ki 19:12), and He is the active fighter. We remain silent about our strength and glorify Him for His strength. As the definition also says, we are "with" and "among" Christ, we are in Christ Who is doing the defeating of the enemy, but we are not the instruments of warfare - He is. His obedience is to The Father in total submission to the will of the Father.

Joh 8:28  Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
Joh 8:29  And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Christ says that what His Father has taught Him He speaks, and that means "I do nothing of myself".  So too, with driving out the enemies out of our land. We are active in the driving out in Christ, but as far as the flesh is concerned, we are in "repose", motionless. I cannot claim a single thing that is by my own thought or power. The battle is inward, in my heavens, where the carnal mind is always trying to claim something originated from its own will separate from God. This is the land we are getting ready to possess, have possessed and in which we now live.

Next, we must understand that the "nations" are unclean, they are carnal, and they are gentile in nature. Here is the definition for this particular word "nations":

גֹּי    גּוֹי
gôy    gôy
go'ee, go'-ee
Apparently from the same root as H1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts: - Gentile, heathen, nation, people.
Total KJV occurrences: 559

There's a lot of deep meaning in the definition. It's from the root H1465 - in the sense of massing from the back, from behind, a gentile heathen nation or a flight of locusts. The reason it is from the back is because we are "looking" back after we have entered Christ. He shows us our aion (eon) by looking back;

Rev 1:12  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

We are already in the fight when the LORD opens our eyes that we are 'the Christ'. We turn and look and see that all that we thought we were, are or could be was all a lie of Babylon. We were blinded by the smoke of the bottomless pit where the mass of locusts come arise. It is the beginning of the battle to take the land, and it is the first Woe.

Rev 9:12  One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.

So what are the nations that we are preparing to conquer in repose as we are in Christ? They are represented by locusts. What do the locusts represent? Below is an excerpt from Brother Mike's study of Revelation 9:3-4 on what these locusts represent;

So the locusts represent all the darkened, gentile, unclean, carnal thoughts which are in our lives about how man lives. The nations within us are the darkened carnal thoughts that devour all that we are. They permeate all that we think we are and produce nothing but pain and misery. All our ways are nothing but pain and misery. What we think of life is all wrong; totally and absolutely void of anything good in the eyes of God.

Gen 1:2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

This is a description of how we are originally created in Adam, which is WITHOUT FORM of the knowledge of God in truth. We are VOID of anything of ourselves. DARKNESS is upon the face of all that we are, we are being devoured by locusts, the false doctrines of the earth that have been passed down through generation after generation, which cause nothing but pain and misery. These false doctrines have a king over them, the father of lies, Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek, in other words, Satan;

Joh 8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Rev 9:11  And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

The scriptures point out that his name, the king over the lies represented by locusts, in the Hebrew TONGUE is Abaddon because in our religious beginnings we think we hold the truth from our patriarchs of the literal Hebrew lineage, and when we get really 'Christianized' we say that the devil is the true destroyer, the beginning of all the problems, we give him the strength as if it were from him, and that gentile or Greek name is Apollyon. So, let's examine the first nation which we are set to conquer, not as though there is an order, but as the first one mentioned. Each nation is a representation of a mass of locusts, a gentile, or unclean doctrine which we hold. It is one of the heads of the beast that rises up out of the sea of mankind. It is a mark of the beast, for it is a darkened doctrine of mankind saying it is the creator of my seven days, completion of days.

Rev 13:1  And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

Rev 13:18  Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

What is a "Hittite"? We know that it is gentile. We know that it is like a mass of locusts that darken of heavens. So what is it? How do we describe a Hittite doctrine? A Hittite is from Heth, Heth was the son of Canaan, and Canaan was the son of Ham.

Gen 10:6  And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

Gen 10:15  And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth,

Patronymic from H2845; a Chittite, or descendant of Cheth: - Hittite, Hittites.
Total KJV occurrences: 46

From H2865; terror; Cheth, an aboriginal Canaanite: - Heth.
Total KJV occurrences: 14

So Heth is the father of the Hittites, which are really Canaanites. However when we look closely at the root word for Heth, we find what we are looking for under the layers of Leviathan's scales;

A primitive root; properly to prostrate; hence to break down, either (literally) by violence, or (figuratively) by confusion and fear: - abolish, affright, be (make) afraid, amaze, beat down, discourage, (cause to) dismay, go down, scare, terrify.
Total KJV occurrences: 48

Now we've found it! To take over the promised land is to drive out all the Hittites which are causing us to be prostrate. The Hittites are all of the doctrines which threaten violence and cause us to be fearful, affrighted, amazed, discouraged, scared or terrify us. What are these doctrines which cause all this confusion and terror? The father of these doctrines is the doctrine of a literal place where God will torment all those who, through their own free will, did not believe in Jesus Christ. This place they call hell, where God the Father will for all of eternity WITHOUT end torment people in fleshly bodies so they can experience literal pain for not believing in Christ!  Even if they were twelve-year old boys and girls who were born in Muslim homes, who were taught from birth about Allah, if they died after twelve years of age in unbelief, they will suffer the torments of literal flames for all eternity without end from a loving God! These are darkened doctrines of annihilation and destruction for people who do not believe the way each Babylonian Church believes.

But let's not just focus on Christianity. Muslims also have a hell, called Jahannam, Hindu's have Naraka, and so on and so on. Almost all religions have a place of eternal punishment, with the threat of God sending people to a cavern, a hole in the earth or a place in darkened space. Whatever the angle, it is for the purpose of control to control the masses, to keep man so focused on doing good works in the flesh that the inner man is never cleansed. It's all for looks.

Mat 23:25  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Mat 23:26  Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

A Hittite doctrine is a doctrine focused on a darkened principles. These are doctrines which focus on things of the unclean that they call clean; doctrines which come from the unclean darkened gentile that is described as a mass of locusts that devours all that is good. It devours it because it comes from the flesh, and the flesh is described as the belly.

Rom 16:17  Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Rom 16:18  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Php 3:18  (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
Php 3:19  Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

Any darkened doctrine which leads us from the light of Christ is as a Hittite and must not be shown mercy but totally destroyed. We are shown what is good, what is light by contrast to the darkened doctrines that were upon the face of our deep. We cannot love without knowing hatred, and we cannot know the righteousness of Christ without the unrighteousness of the flesh. A Hittite is a darkened doctrine of any religion, of any doctrine which causes us to focus on the flesh and not Christ. It's not just hell, but all doctrines that come from a place of terror to the man of God. Christ feared His Father, but Christ never thought that His Father meant evil against Him. He knew that what He was sent to do was good and was by the hand of His Father. He knew whatever His life held in store for Him was good for Him, no matter what it was; even the death of the cross. He knew that even though He was being crucified for the sins of the world, that it could not separate Him from the love of His Father, for these where His final words:

Luk 23:46  And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

He was so sure of His connection to His Father that He knew not even death could separate Him from His Creator. Light exposes darkness, and Christ exposes the doctrines of the Hittite within us. Nothing can separate us from the love of God, and the more He grants us victory over the Hittite doctrines of our promised land, the more we will possess it.

Rom 8:35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Rom 8:36  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Rom 8:37  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Rom 8:38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Next week, LORD willing, we will cover what a "Girgashite" represents for the spiritual new man possessing the promised land.
