Deu 2:17-18 The Spiritual Significance of Passing Through Ar

Deu 2:17 That the LORD spake unto me, saying,
Deu 2:18 Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:

In studying these two verses we must cover the literal events in order to get the spiritual significance of them. Thus, we must do a little reading to get the meaning God wants us to take away from this study. May we not be blinded from an idol of our heart, but may we be blessed to see the truth: that Moab our brother is of his father, the devil, which as Edom, is a type of our religious old man. These battles over land are not physical, but rather spiritual battles during our progression into the knowledge of God. Our old man does not want peace with Christ because for him to make peace means he must give up his elder birthright, for the flesh was first, not the spirit. It means he must submit to his own death, which he will not do.

1Co 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

The chapters below from Numbers and Judges describe the battles of Ammon and Moab against the Israelites, which spiritually also describes our battles which mark our progress from our old man to our new man. We come asking for peace, as the 70 disciples were sent to the land of Israel, but end up in war against him because he will not relent in his ownership of his land.

Num 21:13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
Num 21:14 Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
Num 21:15 And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.

Jdg 11:13 And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.
Jdg 11:14 And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:
Jdg 11:15 And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:
Jdg 11:16 But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;
Jdg 11:17 Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
Jdg 11:18 Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
Jdg 11:19 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.
Jdg 11:20 But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
Jdg 11:21 And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
Jdg 11:22 And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.
Jdg 11:23 So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?
Jdg 11:24 Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
Jdg 11:25 And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,
Jdg 11:26 While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?
Jdg 11:27 Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
Jdg 11:28 Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
Jdg 11:29 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
Jdg 11:32 So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
Jdg 11:33 And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

Jephthah explains the account of our story of passing over through Ar and how it came to be we defeat Sihon king of Heshbon, which is the king of Ammon, Moab's brother's decendants, the Ammonites. We know both came from their mothers' incestuous relationship with their father, Lot (Gen 19:30-38). We must point out all of this about who's who because of how Babylon in us wants to receive it. My flesh tells me that it does not care who's who and who sleep with whom. "It's all just a simple history lesson, and we should not concern ourselves with all the details, just read it and move on", says the flesh.

However, this is the EXACT REASON WE ARE HERE. THIS IS THE BATTLE OF AMMON which WE ARE CURRENTLY FIGHTING IN THIS LESSON, to expose the lies of the king, our father. We will not stop investigating, digging and exposing the lies of the king of Ammon - Satan. Anytime a king of these lessons is mentioned, he is either a little dragon "of his father (Moab), or he is the father himself. Our old man is Ammon. The cities in the coast of Moab (ArH6144 means city) represent places of habitation of the children of their father the devil. They represent the false doctrines that house the people of Babylon within us, and as this war goes, so must we in our war. EVERYTHING THAT BREATHES MUST DIE - old doctrines down to infant doctrines, all must die. This is exactly what happens in this war between Israel and the king of Ammon. Let's read about it in detail in new testament language, a tongue we receive when the fire comes down on us on our day of pentecost, where we begin to speak in a new tongue that none but the elect can understand.

Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds😉
2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2Co 10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle NOT against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Mat 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Act 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Rom 16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Rev 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

These verses we just read are how we battle the King of Ammon and his children/doctrines inside us, the Amorites, the Philistines, etc. They all represent either our old man himself as a little dragon of his father the Dragon, or they represent the Dragon himself. The Dragon and his children all do the same thing. They send a flood of false doctrines to carry us away, but we are not deterred.

Rev 12:15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

Instead of the flood overcoming us, it overcomes the false doctrines that held us. The very lies by which we were deceived, and which were meant to keep us in bondage, are what exposes the serpent for who he is and in turn defeats him.

Luk 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

"Pass over Ar, the coast of Moab, THIS DAY." What day is He speaking of? "THE DAY."

Zec 13:2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

After the men of war were defeated, God begins to speak to us. Then He tells us to pass over the cities of our brother Moab, who is a first glimpse into our old religious man, of his father the devil. Our fleshly thoughts of who God is and who we are direct our worship of Him. These carnal thoughts must be killed from the old to the young progressively as we grow in the knowledge of God. As we grow, we will begin to talk in a new language, a new tongue. It is a language which is unknown by any but those for whom The LORD interprets it. This language is the cloven tongues of fire. It is the weapons of our warfare, it is the flooding waters of God's word, and it is the sword that we use to fight against all that need to be cleansed in our heavens.

Heb 9:23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Heaven is not a rock in space, heaven is in our minds and hearts where God's throne is, where Christ cleanses and allows us to speak in a new language. This is where the old doctrines are destroyed and the new ones learned. This is typified in the death of the men of war and the birth of the new Israelites who inhabit the promised land. Then it is typified by the death of our old man and the birth of our new man, which leads us to speak in a new language that our fathers (old man) never new.

Zep 3:9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.

Deu 2:17 That the LORD spake unto me, saying,
Deu 2:18 Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:

The passing over is as its definition (H5674) brings out. To pass over is to get rid of it, alienate it, cover it, to do away with it and escape it. This is what we are to do with all that we learned about Moab in us. We learned earlier in one of the lessons that Moab's name signifies who he is and what he represents - self loving. Moab as we know comes from the incestous act of his mother with her father, thereby giving him his name, from her, the mother's father. We are passing over from the twisted ideology of our father of the flesh, the Devil, that has kept us bound by his twisted doctrines all of our lives. Our mother is Babylon, and our father is the Devil. She had an incestuos affair with her father the devil to keep her lineage alive, the worship of herself - the flesh.

H4124 - Moab - From a prolonged form of the prepositional prefix “m-” and H1; from (her (the mother’s)) father; Moab, an incestuous son of Lot; also his territory and descendants: - Moab.

H1366 - the coast - From H1379; properly a cord (as twisted), that is, (by implication) a boundary; by extension the territory inclosed: - border, bound, coast, X great, landmark, limit, quarter, space.

H1379 - A primitive root; properly to twist as a rope; only (as a denominative from H1366) to bound (as by a line): - be border, set (bounds about).

We can see from the definitions what we are dealing with in the flesh, what the flesh is, who's the mother of the flesh, who's the father of the flesh, and thereby we can see who are the children we have produced from the flesh. When I say that we are of our mother Babylon and of our father the Devil, it should be said that God is the Creator of everything which we are. The Devil, Babylon, does not create anything, but it is thoughts, the doctrines we have formed together to produce a child. All of our ways are self-centered, self-glorifying, and twisted by ropes of lies that entangle themselves within themselves to produce a hold on us that we cannot break. We have been lied to from birth. We were not created innocent or perfectly good or any variation of perfection. We were created as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, by the things we speak.

2Pe 2:12 But these (Moabites), as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

Jud 1:10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

Corruption from the Moabite does not come from some outward place or person, but rather corruption comes from within us, from our hearts. This corruption shows who we are in the flesh, what our carnal mind thinks about who the flesh is and who God is.

Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Mat 15:20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Our carnal mind thinks like a Moabite, not like an Israelite. A Moabite thinks like his father.

Joh 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

We cannot, in the flesh, understand the language of the first Israelite, Christ, because what comes from us is the language of our father the devil who only concentrates on himself. This other language of works, baptism, tongues, salvation, heaven and hell is foreign to me and unintelligible. When Christ says:

Joh 8:28 "When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things."

He is telling us that it is not until YOU kill me by your false doctrines that glorify yourself, like your father, will you then understand that I AM HE. Understanding of Who He is does not come until AFTER we have crossed the coast of Moab and seen that we are guilty of the crucifixion of Christ personally. We personally killed Him, along with our fathers the Pharisees and Romans, with our rejection of His truth that we do nothing of ourselves. As we see our father the devil do, so we do the works of him, who was a murder of truth from his beginning.

When Christ tells us we are slaves to sin, we scoff at it and say, "I was born free in America, Australia, Europe, Africa. How can you say I am a slave? I have freewill to choose whatever I want." These words which come from within are the language of a slave to sin and the slave of his own father and mother. When we speak we speak the language that only other Moabites can understand.

I will end with another personal example of what Moabite language sounds like. Alcoholics Anonymous says that you are an alcoholic because you chose to be an alcoholic and once an alcoholic, you will always be an alcoholic. Their doctrine says that if you are an alcoholic you will always be one even if you don't drink for the rest of your life. This is the language which the flesh understands because it wants to take credit for everything - even its own sin. It WANTS THE RESPONSIBILITY of its own free will to sin so that it can claim its own self-righteousness in making itself right again. This is Moabite language twisted into cords of bondage that cannot be broken but by the death of its nature and the birth of a new nature. This new nature does not understand Moabitish language but understands Israelite language;

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (cannot understand the language)
Joh 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Joh 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

We hear the wind of the Spirit, but we cannot in the flesh understand where it is coming from or where it is going, because we are in the flesh. We hear the words of an Israelite, "all things were created by him and for him, all things in heaven and in earth, powers, principalities, are kept in consistance by him", but we cannot understand how this can be. "But I thought we had freewill!" It is a different language that only an Israelite can understand, and that IS PASSING THROUGH AR ALONG THE COAST OF MOAB.
