Deu 1:19-23 They Shall Search Us Out The Land

Deu 1:19 And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.
Deu 1:20 And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.
Deu 1:21 Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.
Deu 1:22 And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
Deu 1:23 And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:

It’s important to point out what these verses say and what the verses say in Numbers 13 when these things actually took place. The reason is because these verses seem to say that it was the people’s idea to come to Moses and say THEY WANTED to send spies ahead of them into the promised land. Then Moses says that this idea pleased him. But when we look at the original account, we will see why the people came to Moses and why Moses liked the idea.

Num 13:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Num 13:2 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
Num 13:3 And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

So we must ask, “Why did Deuteronomy say the people came to Moses, and in Numbers, God was the One Who ordered them to go?” It would seem that the people are taking credit for what God had ordered. Because we know that scripture answers scripture, there is a very simple answer to this supposed contradiction. The answer to the question is that no matter what comes out of my mouth or what is in my thoughts, both come from the hand of God. God controls both my thoughts and my speech.

Pro 16:1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

Pro 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

BOTH the preparations of the heart in man AND the answer of the tongue are FROM THE LORD. The Israelites can come to Moses and say, “Hey, Moses, we were thinking that instead of just rushing into this land, we should send some people over there first to spy it out. That way we can be prepared.” Even though it seems that the people are coming up with the idea, it’s really God’s plan. It’s God setting them up for failure in this case. He is letting them think they are coming up with a great idea, but the truth is, the idea is showing what’s in their heart, who they are from creation.

Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (for which the law was made)
Mat 15:20 These are the things which defile a man (again, for which the law was made, to defile the man).

They do not trust in God, they have forgotten the miracles and they are afraid. They are unbelieving of the fact that God created the very giants in the land in which they are spying. We seem to think that the people went over there, saw the giants, and then were frightened. But that is not scripturally correct. What comes out of our mouth is what is in our old man’s heart, unbelief. God knew these people were too afraid, He knew they did not trust Him, He knew that the generation that spied out the land could not enter the promised land because they represent the flesh. They represent everything we are in the flesh. We can witness miracle after miracle, yet we will not trust Him. This a fact to which everyone of the Elect can attest, too. When the people came to Moses and said they wanted to send spies ahead of them to spy out the land, that WAS GOD TELLING MOSES TO SEND THE PEOPLE ACROSS INTO THE LAND. Whatever is said in this world, no matter how good or vile, is from the hand of The LORD, Who created all things for Himself, yes even the wicked FOR THE DAY OF EVIL;

Pro 16:4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

God wanted us to see FOR OURSELVES what was in our heart, unbelief. He wanted them/us to see for themselves/ourselves what they/we really already knew in their/our heart, they/we did not believe God. When God told Peter that he would deny Christ, He did so to show Peter what was in his heart, not to show God. God put it there in Peter’s heart so that he would learn not to put trust in his flesh, and how to be compassionate toward his brothers when he is converted;

Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luk 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art CONVERTED, strengthen thy brethren.

These Israelites that gave the bad report, these 10 who show the perfection of the flesh, witnessed to what ALL Israel believed, because if you notice in the verse it says:

Deu 1:22 And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come. (notice all the ‘we’ and ‘us’)

WE…”WE will send men before us, and they shall search out the land.” In other words, “we don’t believe you, we don’t trust you, so we are going to go look for ourselves and see if WE THINK WE CAN POSSESS THE LAND.” What is the land? What do we as the Elect of God believe the land represents? We should know that the land represents our lives. Our bodies and minds are the heaven and earth that God created in Genesis 1. The land of that earth is what produces the harvest, whether it be a harvest of wheat or a harvest of tares. When God shows us that we are unbelieving, we are harvesting tares and so when God grants us to trust Him, we are harvesting wheat. When the Israelites thought it wise to search out the land, it was God’s way of showing their unbelief.

Psa 143:8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
Psa 143:9 Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
Psa 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
Psa 143:11 Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
Psa 143:12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

“Cause me to hear…cause me to know the way wherein I should walk…deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies…teach me to do thy will…lead me into the LAND of uprightness…quicken me…of Thy mercy cut off mine enemies…for I am Thy servant”.

He causes me to hear, that causes me to know the way, that delivers me from mine enemies/unbelief, that teaches me to do His will, which leads me into righteousness, the righteousness of the truth that I am His SERVANT. The word servant DOES NOT imply a freewilled hired servant, but a bondservant. We are bound to the LORD by His creation of us, for His righteousness sake alone. The word servantH5650 is ;

When we are worshippers of God, we are in essence servants, slaves to Him Who created us. Is not that what worship is, falling down at His feet, bowing to His authority over all that we are? Being His servants with a hole BORED through our ear?

Exo 21:2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant (an Elect in the spirit), six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
Exo 21:3 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him (going back to Babylon).
Exo 21:4 If his master have given him a wife (the Church), and she have born him sons or daughters (the doctrines in the Church); the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself.
Exo 21:5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master (God), my wife (the church as a whole), and my children (the doctrines we have learned while in the church); I will not go out free:
Exo 21:6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door (Christ), or unto the door post (the foundation of Christ, His Father); and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul (his ear is forcibly opened by his Master); and he shall serve him for ever.

Because the flesh, the first Adam, has drunk of the intoxicating wine of Babylon, we believe we are free and make our own decisions as freewill agents, separately and independently from God. We think we can spy out our land and make the choices we think are appropriate for our lives as though our lives belong to us, as if we are our own creators. We know that The LORD had already given the people of the land into their hands because of verses 20 & 21.

So the only reason they wanted to spy out the land was to tempt God. The fact is we do not believe God when He tells us that He has delivered us from our giants. We either love the giants more than God or we believe that we created our own giants, therefore we have to be the ones who destroy them. We then realize that we cannot destroy these giants in our land and stay enslaved to them for the rest of our fleshly lives. Or God forcibly opens our ear and says, “let there be light” and suddenly I get it, and the darkness becomes light, and I am freed IN THE slavery of my LORD. There was a saying I read years ago, and I really liked it, so I wrote it in my bible. At the time it seemed like a good thing to say, but I can honestly say I never really knew why.

At the time I thought that being free was totally different than what I see now. Back then it was a religious freedom, which meant that I was someone different from “those people” who were all going to hell. Freedom was me freeing myself from the sin I had created, and once I had freed myself, God would then enslave me to Himself as a clean vessel. Freedom had NOTHING TO DO WITH DOCTRINE (I thought), how could it, I already knew the truth, and everyone else was going to hell. The literal Israelites, who represent us in our unconverted religious state, did not believe God had created the giants in the land. They must have believed that they were created by themselves or else why would they not believe that the same God Who created them, the Israelites, had also created the giants? And if He created the giants, just like He created them, why couldn’t He overcome them? So, the obvious fact is that they/we do not believe God creates the giants in our land. We believe we do or that they just create themselves, and we must overcome them with our own strength. “My sin is my sin, my giant is my giant, as I created my sin, I must overcome it.” Or as the world teaches, “I inherited drinking from my literal father” which is actually a spiritual revelation of where it comes from. This is unbelief! This is the unbelief that excludes us from entering rest, because it keeps us battling something we did not create and can’t defeat. As long as I believe that the giants were created by themselves, or inherited, I will live in fear of them all my life. We can only be enslaved to something which we believe is stronger than us, and if that is our giants, then we will never enter the rest of God.

However, the most important thing we will discover about the unbelief of the Israelites, who are us, is that they/we don’t understand who the Amorites are and where the Amorites originate.

The name AmoriteH567 means “sayer” (from H559, to boast) and that took me to a word that had “sayer” in it and that was soothsayerH7080 “to practice divination, divine, diviners of nations, Balaam, false prohet of Israel”. Balaam the soothsayer is H1109, “not of the people”, Israel. Balaam, the son of BeorH1160, From H1197 (in the sense of burning) H1197- A primitive root; to kindle, that is, consume (by fire or by eating),kindle, set ([on fire]).

So let’s put all of this together. An Amorite is a sayer; a sayer (in the negative) is something that is spoken publicly, boastfully, that was brought to thought by divination (other than through the revelation of the righteousness of God in Christ), like Balaam the soothsayer. This soothsayer is NOT of the people, and like his father, Beor (who represents the devil), what he “says” sets on fire, kindles a fire. For whom were the fires of Gehenna fire made? Mat 25:41 tells us Gehenna will be used for the devil and his angels, which angels mean messengers, and messengers mean the things we “say” to others when those sayings are not from the truth. Whatever we “say” is a message to someone for them to comprehend, understand or learn. When that “saying” is from someone without the knowledge of truth, who is not of the people/Balaam, whatever they are saying is “soothsaying”. It is kindling the flame of Gehenna where all those “soothsaying” are burnt up. When we say anything and are not understanding God is Creator and LORD of whatever we say, we are soothsaying and that Amoritish, Balaam, Beor spirit must be defeated.

Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Our tongue is the member whereby we “say” things, whether good or evil. It is good when we are blessed with the knowledge that God created all things by Jesus Christ and by Him all things consist. It is evil when we think we contribute ANYTHING to the creation, even sin – this is being a “soothsayer”. Where does this soothsayer come from? God. Why did God create this soothsayer in me? Because we are BEING created daily, hourly, minute by minute by the flames of fire which purify us, and by this purification God is creating a new vessel unto honour. It is the flames of Gehenna fire which burn the devil out of us. It burns the iniquitous self-righteous, self-seeking spirit of our father the devil out of us, thereby creating a vessel fit for his Master’s use.

1Co 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (Jesus Christ is the CREATOR OF ALL THINGS, THAT IS OUR FOUNDATION)
1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Co 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
1Co 3:14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (he is receiving a reward because he is declaring all things are created by Christ)
1Co 3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. (we suffer loss because we took credit for something, and the gehenna fire was kindled and our “soothsaying” was burnt up.)

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
2Ti 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2Ti 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
