Deuteronomy – Deu 10:12-22 Only God can Teach us how to Love our Neighbor

[Study aired July 26, 2019]

Deu 10:12  And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
Deu 10:13  To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
Deu 10:14  Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
Deu 10:15  Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.
Deu 10:16  Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.
Deu 10:17  For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
Deu 10:18  He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
Deu 10:19  Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Deu 10:20  Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.
Deu 10:21  He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.
Deu 10:22  Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.

If we take these verses at face value, all we get out of them is that the LORD did some great things in the literal nation of Israel. He loved Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, chose them out of the world, and the literal nation of Israel became God’s people. They needed to love Him in return with all their heart, and soul and to love the stranger as well. He increased them greatly from the seventy people with which He started into a great multitude. This is what Babylon gets out of those verses. When, in times past, I read them, that’s all I got; nothing more, nothing less. Nevertheless, those words were sent to blind the masses. They were sent to confuse and deliberately mislead the people of the land we were sent to conquer. All of scripture does the same thing from Genesis to Revelation.  As I sat here this morning writing, I looked out the window from time to time. The light of the sun was just beginning to break through, and the clouds looked black with a highlight of yellow. Then as I would receive a thought, I would look up again and there was more light, the clouds were then gray with red and yellow highlights. I could now see the blue sky as it was revealed between the clouds. I looked up just now, and the clouds are white, they have changed colors in the hour or so I have been sitting here.

This is what scripture does for God’s children, whom He loves and has called and chosen out of the world. At first they are dark and terrible, no light at all. Then as the Sun (Christ) begins to rise in our hearts, the clouds, the witnesses who have gone on before us, begin to change color. You see the highlights and forms of the clouds. You see the different colors, the different shapes, the way they move and how the Sun gives them their colors at different times. This is us. This is how we see the word. It comes alive once the Son has risen in our hearts. The confusion of darkness begins to fade, the scariness of darkness has left us, and we are standing in the light of the Son. That Light gives you warmth, sight, and it gives life to all that see it.

Let us see as Christ sees. Let us see what He means when He says to love Him with all our heart and soul. Let us fall prostrate before Him to Whom all of creation belongs. Worshiping God with all my heart and soul is to confess the truth of what He created me, to confess I am a sinner in all areas of my life, but thank God for it for had I not been shown who I was, I could not embrace who He has made me. You cannot have one without the other. I will love the stranger who I was, as the Son, who I am now, because unless I see myself as a stranger, separate from God and without hope, I cannot have hope. Hope that is seen is not hope, but works of the flesh.

Rom 8:24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Rom 8:25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

What does verse 12 and 13 mean to you and me when He tells us:

Deu 10:12  And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Deu 10:13  To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

First, we must see Christ as the LORD our God. LORD in this verse is JehovahH3068 and means to be “self existent” and the word “God”H430 is Eloheem and  means “the supreme God”. So, we are to serve Christ as the self-existent supreme God. What does that mean to us? That Christ is the One Who is self existent in all things, not me.

Dan 4:17  This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Act 17:24  God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Act 17:25  Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

Col 1:15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

So what in your or my life was created by Christ? When I am good to my neighbor? When I feed the poor? When I attend bible studies? When I lie, cheat and steal from my neighbor? What part of my life is created by Christ, and what part is created by me? To fear The LORD thy God and to love Him with all my heart is to see Him in all things working together for the good. For all things work together for good to them who love God. That means even the things that seem to be evil have a purpose in showing us the goodness of God. Not that we are to set out to do evil that good may come, but when evil does happen, we can rest assured it was meant for good.

Rom 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Rom 3:8  And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

To fear and to love the LORD thy God is to see Him as the Master over all things and directing what He has created as He sees fit. To rob Him of any part of creation, no matter how evil we see it, is to not fear Him as the Creator of evil, and to not see Him as Creator of evil is to make someone else the creator of it thereby robbing God of His LORDSHIP. It is His Lordship which directs and rules what His Godhead had created. To take that from Him is to worship another god who created the evil as a god of evil and then worship God only as the Creator of what we call good. This is called “IDOLATRY”. To fear Him as the sole Creator of all things is to honor Him as He is telling us in verses 12 and 13.

He created the very inhabitants of the Israelites’ land and the very giants they were going to defeat. So, too, with us inwardly. Our giants are created by Him. Are they evil, like the literal giants in the literal land of Canaan? Yes, they are, and they are created for our learning. To know that at any minute God may read an evil out of my book into existence for my good is fear; a healthy fear. To love Him is to see Him as the Creator of all things, and to know all things were created for our good is a healthy love. This is brought out in verses 14 and 15.

Deu 10:14  Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
Deu 10:15  Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.

These verses show Who created the inhabitants in our land. There is no disputing Who is Creator of heaven and earth and “ALL THAT THEREIN IS.” And if we are given eyes to see this truth, then we worship Him in truth. We do not go to the god of evil to appease him. We do not go to the god of thunder, fire, rain, clouds or the goddess of love. No, we go to the One and Only God Who created everything we are, were and will be – good or evil. To allow any room for free moral agency is to deny God as God and worship yourself as a little god independent from The God.

1Co 8:4  As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
1Co 8:5  For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many),
1Co 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
1Co 8:7  Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

We know there is but one God, “howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge”. There are many false gods in the world’s mind, and we all worshiped false gods of some sort. The Babylonian world today says that if you don’t agree to disagree that “there are many gods”, then you are hated above everyone else. The Babylonian world teaches its inhabitants they must be tolerant of all religions, must agree that they can worship God any way they want, and we should accept it and embrace their culture. If not, then we are a cult and extremists who cannot be tolerated in today’s world. But, we cannot agree to disagree. We must always stand on the truth no matter what the cost. The Muslim god, the Hindu god, the Mormon god, the Catholic god, all the so-called 30,000 Christian denominational gods, the Buddhist and the Jewish god, are all bits and pieces of each others’ gods. They are false gods, given them by the true God to lead them astray from The Truth.

2Th 2:1  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
2Th 2:3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
2Th 2:5  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6  And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2Th 2:9  Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The world requires validation on their one-world belief that you can worship your god your way, and I can worship my God my way, and we are both going to end up on a hodge-podge planet of confusion called heaven where Muhammud and the Pope will embrace in unison and prance around heaven praising each other’s gods and all the 30,000 christian denominations will praise God for all the people who are being tormented in a literal flame of fire for not embracing this universal idea of worship.

Sounds extreme, but in reality it is not. The world wants us to worship like them or we will pay the consequence. The world wants a universal worship and a universal submission to this one world embrace of universalism. The homosexuals have their god, the transgender has ITS god, the liberal feminists have their god, and any other weird offshoot has their god, and we are to all embrace each other’s way of worship in some weird Sodom and Gomorrah universal worship? This is not worship of God. This is worship of mankind as god, and it is the height of all that is evil about mankind to worship himself as God independent from the God, the height of the man of sin. God will bring an end to all flesh, and all carnal-mindedness will be judged in the lake of fire and all fleshly gods and idols will melt with the fervent heat of the fire that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

Gen 6:13  And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

1Pe 4:7  But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

We will be the priests and kings of God who will be used to bring the judgment of idolatry upon the whole of the human race – 666 – who worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, therefore God gave them over to a debased mind. All of us are born with that mark for we all are born in sin and worship and serve ourselves above our Creator.

Rom 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23  And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24  Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29  Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

God gives us the desire of our hearts to humble us. We all worship ourselves, from the best the human race has to offer to the worst. We all are guilty of the sin of self-righteousness, claiming we are a god above the desires of the true God. We have all fallen short, and all that we have talked about in this preceding study is for the purpose of seeing ourselves as the worst of the worst. To see ourselves as the worst is to see ourselves in truth. To see yourself as having a goodness, inherent to your flesh, is to be deceived and lost, for there is nothing good in the flesh in and of itself.

Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Rom 3:13  Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
Rom 3:14  Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
Rom 3:15  Their feet are swift to shed blood:
Rom 3:16  Destruction and misery are in their ways:
Rom 3:17  And the way of peace have they not known:
Rom 3:18  There is no fear of God before their eyes.

This is who we are from birth and is how we come to the knowledge of truth, to see ourselves as God sees us and to continue in that knowledge. Nothing good can come from the flesh that will make God turn to me and say, “I am good independently from Him” NOTHING. Whatever we are, were and will be, we are, were and will be by the predetermined hand of the Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them, good and evil. This is worshiping God in spirit and in truth, and this is loving God with all your heart and mind. This is circumcising the foreskin of your heart and seeing God as all in all things. He does not regard anyone’s person. He does not regard you if you are homosexual, an adulterer, a fornicator, a thief, an honourable man, a righteous man, a good father or a good son. None of it matters, and He does not make choices based on these things. His choices were predestined in Christ before the foundation of the world, and your status as a human being has no bearing on His decisions.

Rom 2:11  For there is no respect of persons with God.

Eph 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Eph 1:4  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Eph 1:5  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Eph 1:6  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

This is fearing the LORD. This is loving God with all my heart and mind, all my heavens and earth. Seeing God as the all in all is worshiping Him in spirit and truth. May He grant us the privilege to worship Him everyday in this spirit and truth.

1Pe 1:17  And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

His plan has been predestined and no one can change His mind or change His plan as it is set in stone. If you know God in truth, you do so because God has given you to know truth, from the foundation of the world. If you do not understand truth and believe you are free moral agent, you are blind and know no truth. Whatever we know, we know by Him and for Him, to bring glory to Him. When we see this truth it is because He causes the scales to fall off our eyes. It is then we are able, by His eternal power, to repent from self-glorification, iniquity, and worship Him in truth. Then and only then does the spirit which raised Christ from the dead overcome our flesh and turn us from sins of the flesh.

Rom 8:11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Rom 8:12  Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Rom 8:13  For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
