Children’s Studies – Adam and Eve, Part 4

Adam and Eve – Part 4

by Victor Torres

Hello children. Today and next week, we will learn the last parts of the story of Adam and Eve.

Let’s look at the last parts of the story of Adam and Eve.

Gen 3:1 The snake was sneakier than any of the other wild animals that the LORD God had made. One day it came to the woman and asked, “Did God tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?”
Gen 3:2 The woman answered, “God said we could eat fruit from any tree in the garden,
Gen 3:3 except the one in the middle. He told us not to eat fruit from that tree or even to touch it. If we do, we will die.”
Gen 3:4 “No, you won’t!” the snake replied.
Gen 3:5 “God understands what will happen on the day you eat fruit from that tree. You will see what you have done, and you will know the difference between right and wrong, just as God does.”
Gen 3:6 The woman stared at the fruit. It looked beautiful and tasty. She wanted the wisdom that it would give her, and she ate some of the fruit. Her husband was there with her, so she gave some to him, and he ate it too.
Gen 3:7 Right away they saw what they had done, and they realized they were naked. Then they sewed fig leaves together to make something to cover themselves.
Gen 3:8 Late in the afternoon a breeze began to blow, and the man and woman heard the LORD God walking in the garden. They were frightened and hid behind some trees.
Gen 3:9 The LORD called out to the man and asked, “Where are you?”
Gen 3:10 The man answered, “I was naked, and when I heard you walking through the garden, I was frightened and hid!”
Gen 3:11 “How did you know you were naked?” God asked. “Did you eat any fruit from that tree in the middle of the garden?”
Gen 3:12 “It was the woman you put here with me,” the man said. “She gave me some of the fruit, and I ate it.”
Gen 3:13 The LORD God then asked the woman, “What have you done?” “The snake tricked me,” she answered. “And I ate some of that fruit.”
Gen 3:14 So the LORD God said to the snake: “Because of what you have done, you will be the only animal to suffer this curse– For as long as you live, you will crawl on your stomach and eat dirt.
Gen 3:15 You and this woman will hate each other; your descendants and hers will always be enemies. One of hers will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel.”
Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to [this should be translated against as in Gen 4:8, will get to this later] thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Gen 3:17 The LORD said to the man, “You listened to your wife and ate fruit from that tree. And so, the ground will be under a curse because of what you did. As long as you live, you will have to struggle to grow enough food.
Gen 3:18 Your food will be plants, but the ground will produce thorns and thistles.
Gen 3:19 You will have to sweat to earn a living; you were made out of soil, and you will once again turn into soil.”
Gen 3:20 The man Adam named his wife Eve because she would become the mother of all who live.
Gen 3:21 Then the LORD God made clothes out of animal skins for the man and his wife.
Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Gen 3:23 So the LORD God sent them out of the Garden of Eden, where they would have to work the ground from which the man had been made.
Gen 3:24 Then God put winged creatures at the entrance to the garden and a flaming, flashing sword to guard the way to the life-giving tree.

Last week, we learned what is meant by Adam and Eve being both naked and not ashamed. We learned that this is the first condition of every man and woman who has ever lived and who will ever live. We will all be disobedient to our Head Jesus Christ.

1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man [and woman] is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Some of us will be taught to be obedient to Christ in this life, but most of mankind will be rebellious to their Head Jesus Christ.

The people who obey Him make up His body. We are the ones who will be in the first resurrection. We will be the ones used by God to save the rest of mankind in the second resurrection.

Let’s take a look back at some of the scriptures we just read:

Her husband was there with her, so she gave some to him, and he ate it, too.

So it was a snake that talked to Eve to tempt her to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Does anyone know who this snake is?

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, the old serpent called Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

There it is, kids. In Revelation 12:9, we are told who this snake who deceived or tricked Eve is. It was the devil or Satan. But that is not the only thing that this verse tells us. It also tells us that Satan deceives or tricks the whole world!

1Jn 5:19 We are certain that we come from God and that the rest of the world is under the power of the devil.

But why would God allow this to happen? Isn’t He more powerful than the devil? Of course He is. Didn’t we learn that He controls all spirits, both the good and the evil spirits?

Pro 16:4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Amo 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

This is a very important lesson to learn and remember. God is in control of both good and evil. If we keep this in mind, we will not brag to ourselves and to others when we do good because we know that it is God who is making us do good things. At the same time, when we know that God controls evil, we will be humble enough to ask for forgiveness when we do the evil and ask Him not to cause us to commit evil again.

Isa 63:17 O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

Knowing that it is Him who sends an evil spirit to someone who sins against us should also give us the peace of mind to forgive others when they do evil against us.

We shouldn’t strike back and take revenge. It is okay to get angry at someone when they sin against you and God. But we shouldn’t do evil to them. For example, if someone bullies you at school or in the playground, you should never fight back, but you need to tell them that you will tell the adults who are in charge if they don’t stop what they are doing.

So it was God who sent Satan to trick Eve into disobeying Him. It was God who made Satan sneakier than any of the creatures He has created.

Look at that, kids! God even put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil IN THE MIDDLE of the garden.

Again look at how God created the forbidden tree. It looked beautiful and tasty! It gives wisdom to whoever who eats it!

So God created Adam and Eve with a disobedient nature (the code words He used are “made out of the earth” and “naked”). Then He sends Satan, the sneakiest creature He has ever created, to tempt Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Then He created the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and made its fruit to look beautiful and tasty and it would give wisdom to whoever eats it. Then on top of that, He puts it right in the middle of the garden!

Do you think there was any chance that Adam and Eve would not eat of the forbidden fruit? Of course not!

Do you think that there is a chance for any of us to live a life without sinning? Of course not! We will all sin. This body that we are given is sin. It cannot inherit the kingdom of God.

This is a big lesson that you have learned, kids. You know why? If God is the one who causes us to sin, and He is the one who gave us a sinful body, that means He will also forgive all of us and He will change every one of us to His image.

1Co 15:51 Behold, I speak a mystery to you; we shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed;

A lot of people believe in a place called hell where they think God will punish the majority of mankind and that punishment will never end. This is another lie from the devil. Remember, Satan has deceived or tricked the whole world. He has tricked them into believing that we have a free will. He has tricked every man and woman and child into believing that it is up to us if we are going to get saved or not. But what is the truth being taught by the Bible?

Rom 9:15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
Rom 9:16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

It is not up to us kids! We do have a will, and we do good things and bad things. But our will is not free. It is always under God’s control! If we do good, remember who makes us do those good things?

Php 2:13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

I don’t know how much clearer that verse could be! IT IS GOD who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

This is a BIG deal, kids. Most people don’t believe this. Most people think that they have a free will and they have chosen Christ to be their Lord and savior or they have chosen to join a certain church. That’s why they think only they will be saved and others won’t be. Is this what the Bible teaches?

Joh 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

This is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself talking. He is the one who chooses who will follow Him in this life, and He is the one who causes others not to believe Him.

The rest of the world will follow the devil instead:

Joh 8:40 but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.
Joh 8:41 You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.”
Joh 8:42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.
Joh 8:43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.
Joh 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Joh 8:45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.

When we talk about people who do not believe Him, we are not only talking about Muslims or Buddhists or atheists. We are also talking about Christians who do not believe that God will save the whole world. We are talking about Christians that do not believe that God controls everything. We are talking about people who call Jesus Christ their Lord but do not do the things that He says.

Luk 6:46 And why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?

So the big question is what will happen to all these people who do not believe Him?

Rom 11:30 For as you also then disbelieved God, but now have been shown mercy through their disbelief,
Rom 11:31 even so these also have not believed now, so that through your mercy they may also obtain mercy.
Rom 11:32 For God has shut up all in unbelief, so that He might show mercy to all.

God will also have mercy to them just as He is showing mercy to those who belong to the body of Christ now. Let’s look at Romans 11:32 again:

Rom 11:32 For God has shut up all in unbelief, so that He might show mercy to all.

He is the one who caused everyone not to believe Him, so He is also the one who will cause everyone to believe Him. He will show mercy TO ALL.

GOD IS LOVE!

1Jn 4:8 The one who does not love has not known God. For God is love.
1Jn 4:9 In this the love of God was revealed in us, because God sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him.

GOD IS MERCIFUL!

Psa 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

When you kids disobey your parents, we punish you out of our love for you. But we don’t punish you forever. God is more loving and merciful than any of us, so He will punish us for our sins but He will not punish us forever. When we repent, He will forgive us. He will save all men and will teach us all the truth:

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

In the next few weeks, Lord willing, we will conclude our study of Adam and Eve.
