Are We Born of God or Begotten?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hi M____,

Thank you for your comments.

Yes, it is true that we are in the dark womb while we are in Babylon. But even in Babylon we are considered by God to be His. While at that time we are said to be “of our father the devil”, yet God looks beyond that time and sees His finished product as being His child, even if it is but an infant who is still in bondage to the elements of Babylon.

Joh 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word.
Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Gal 4:1 But now to continue—the son who will receive his father’s property is treated just like a slave while he is young, even though he really owns everything.
Gal 4:2 While he is young, there are men who take care of him and manage his affairs until the time set by his father.
Gal 4:3 In the same way, we, too, were slaves of the ruling spirits of the universe before we reached spiritual maturity. (GNB)

Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

So our old man, whose father is the devil, is cursed and doomed to destruction from the day of his birth.

Job 3:1 After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
Job 3:2 And Job spake, and said,

What was “his day”? Verse three makes that very clear:

Job 3:3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

Job’s sons were all destroyed on his eldest son’s day.

Job 1:4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

Job 1:13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

Job 1:19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

It is important that we realize the same Greek word, which is translated ‘born’ in our English versions, is also the word which is translated ‘begotten’ in our English versions.

What this means is that, according to scripture, we are now “born again” sons of God “seated in the heavens” with Christ (Eph 2:6). We are now the ”possessors of all things” in Christ (1Co 3:21, 2Co 6:10), but it is all only in down payment, promised form (Eph 1:14).

2Co 6:10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Eph 2:6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Here are the Strong’s entries for this word. It is obvious that the scriptures do not make any distinction between birth and begettal. In other words, as far as God is concerned, a child in the womb is just as much a son of God as a child outside the womb. 1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

So we are “born again… NOW” but in “earnest” only, and we will be “born again” in fullness at the time of “the redemption of the purchased possession”, which is the resurrection from among the dead (Eph 1:14).

It is all gennao, meaning both born and begotten. God does not distinguish between a child in the womb and a child outside the womb. Both are gennao. So to God, abortion is murder.

I hope this helps you to see that in the scriptures there is no Greek or Hebrew word which distinguishes what we think of as begettal within the womb from what we call birth outside the womb. Both are gennao in the Greek scriptures.

Hope this is helpful. Your brother in Christ, Mike
