Who Are The "Saviors" Of Obadiah 21?
Hi Mike,Hi J____,
Thank you for the phone call the other night; it was most encouraging. I really do feel all the prayers yourself and others have said for me have come to them from God to establish my recovery. It will no doubt be a few more weeks yet before I feel up to normal, but I now feel that I will recover, and the Lord hasn't appointed me to sheol just yet.Lol.
I 've just read Obadiah today and was curious as to what you might have to say about a verse that stuck out to me right at the end of the book verse 21.
Obadiah 1:21 And saviours shall come up in Mount Zion.
(Rotherham's Emphasized Bible).
My question is are these saviours that arise in Mount Zion the called out chosen elect of (Matt 22:14) verse 17 of Obadiah may allude to this also.
Thanks Mike,
J____
You ask about the last verse of Obadiah:Here are those two verses:
"My question is are these saviours that arise in Mount Zion the called out chosen elect of (Matt 22:14) verse 17 of Obadiah may allude to this also."
Oba 1:17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.
The word 'deliverance' in verse 17 is not of the same root as the word 'saviors' in verse 21, but the New Testament writers make it clear that you are indeed right. The saviors mentioned here are God's elect mentioned here:
Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
John comes right out and tells us that "as He is so are we in this world:
So just as God sends Christ to be the savior of this world, so also Christ sends His Christ to be "saviors."1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
This is the message of Ephesians one:
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places],
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church,
Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
So just as Christ is the fullness of His Father, so too, "the church, which is His body, [is] the fullness of Him [Christ]. Christ's inheritance is in His saints. Without them, by God's decree, Christ has no inheritance:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
If you have not yet done so, please listen to and read the study notes from the Dallas conference on what the New Testament teaches about "The Christ of Christ."
I hope this helps you to see that God's elect are His channel through which He intends to bring all men to Himself, and that includes bringing physical Israel to himself when "the fulness of the Gentiles is come in:
Eze 16:55 When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
