What Is The "Treasure In The Field?"
P____ wroteHi Philip,Our church had a sermon on this verse, the hidden treasure, but I couldn't help thinking about John 6:63 "my words are spirit." I understand what field is, and I think I understand what the treasure is. I think it is Jesus or his word. For those with ears to hear, buying the whole field is that the price he paid for the whole world with his son Jesus? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

You are right about what is the treasure Philip. We need not guess:
2 Cor 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. [And what is Jesus Christ?]
2 Cor 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
This "Christ in you" is the treasure which has been hidden in God's 'field' from the generations:
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
"Christ in you" is not just an orthodox Christian phrase. "Christ in you" is the mind of Christ and of His father. Knowing Christ is the very definition of eternal life:
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Orthodox Christianity does not know Christ or His Father. Christ would be crucified in any orthodox Christian church to this day, the minute He uttered the words "love thine enemies." And that is just the beginning of what orthodoxy despises about the doctrine of Jesus Christ. That is why all of God's people "come out of her my people" as Orthodox Christianity has no bread or water at all:
Isa 3:1 For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Rev 18:5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
But God loves Babylon and buys the whole field. We need never guess about what the symbols in Christ's parables are, for they are one and all defined in God's Word. And once they are defined, that definition is consistent:

Matt 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
And it is this very chapter of Matthew 13 which makes it so very clear that God is not at this time trying to save the world. He is in fact, going to great lengths to deceive the world.

Matt 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Matt 13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Matt 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Matt 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
Matt 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them .
Matt 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
"It is not give to them to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven," and yet Christ has paid the price for the whole field:
1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
1 Tim 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.I hope that helps you to understand a little more of the mind of God in regards to His plan and purpose for all of mankind.
