What Is The Spiritual Significance Of The Parting Of Jesus's Raiment?
Hi MikeHi O____,
I think that I may have taken the meaning of a verse in scripture wrong.
It is Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
What I get from this is that Jesus asked forgiveness for all of us who have sinned, as he was crucified for our sins. On the other hand, I can't find this same thing in the other gospels.
I realize we were crucified with him, and have life through him, but I do not know of another place where he asked for our salvation. I realize that he can forgive us and may not have to request it from the Father.
Am I wrong in what I get from this verse ?
Thanks

You are not wrong. Christ has saved the whole world. The whole world is saved by Christ's propitiatory sacrifice.
Never forget, it is the sum of God's Word which constitutes Truth:
Psa 119:160 The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting. (YLT)
1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
1 Tim 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially [not exclusively] of those that believe.
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
The "parting of His garments" tells us simply that those who reject Christ cannot receive "the sum of His righteous Word." Verses like those above are avoided as if they were leprous.
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.Mike
