Generational Curses
Posted October 20, 2004
Greetings again,
I sent this to family members sometime back about the subject of "Generational Curses." It's believed that even as a believer you can still be under generational curses if you don't seek deliverance, not from God, but from a professed preacher who specializes in deliverance, and this is very common in Africa and among other churches here in US.
My question therefore is, if Scriptures say in Romans 8:1-2 that believers are under no condemnation, then what's the essence of forgiveness of sins after one accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.
I do however believe since the devil continuously attacks God's people and we are to resist him with the Word of God, a believer still has to be reminded of these things and be alert. But does this still mean one can be under generational curses after being "born again?"
Could you please shed some light on this subject of generational curses if you have time, God willing?
May the Most High God continue to Bless you all for your wonderful teachings and give you divine strength. Your teachings have really opened my spiritual eyes and my understanding of God's divine purpose in our lives. I am getting there gradually, because scriptures says the truth shall set us free
Peace,

Hi, A____,
I can't really add anything to Romans 8:1-2. If a minister or brother does not believe that "there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," he just may not be where he ought to be "in Christ Jesus."
As you so aptly put it, "To teach otherwise is to teach false doctrine." If exposing false doctrine is unchristian, then Christ was not very Christian. But of course Christ is the very definition of Christian. No one exposes false doctrine as much as Christ exposes false doctrine. So exposing false doctrines is actually a very important part of being a true Christian.
But just for the record, even the old covenant prophets dispensed with this doctrine long before Christ came along. Here it is in Ezekiel 18:
Eze 18:1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,
Eze 18:2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
Eze 18:3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
So how does God now deal with "the sins of the fathers?"
Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Eze 18:10 If he [anyone in Israel] beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
Eze 18:11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,
Eze 18:12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
Eze 18:13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
Eze 18:14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
Eze 18:15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,
Eze 18:16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,
Ezekiel 18:17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
There! Put that with Romans 8:2, and you have two scriptural witnesses that every man is held accountable for his own sins. God says plainly, "He shall not die for the iniquity of his father..."
I hope this is of some use to you. I am thankful for your faithfulness, and I am praying that God will strengthen you. Be assured that you "can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me."
