El Olawm
Hi M____,Hi Mike,Just a short note and revealing observation I have:.I found a book by Lester Sumrall entitled The Names of God . It lists the Names of God He uses in the old testament to reveal His character. The list consists of these names:Yahweh-JehovahJehovah-ElohimJehovah-ElyonEl-ShaddaiJehovah-JirehJehovah-TsidqenuJehovah-NissiJehovah-ShalomJehovah-ShammahJehovah-TsebaothWhat was interesting and revealing is one name that is missing is El-Olawm (Gen 21). Olawm's root word has a meaning of being hidden or to hide (which when I learned this in my study it helped me have a greater depth of understanding of the greek equivelent aion - i.e. aionous life of course does pertain to a definite time period or age, but it also has an implication to the quality or nature of that life which is actually hidden in us (other than the fruit of that life being demonstrated - you shall know them by their fruits)). Anyway, it's AMAZING to me that the ONE name missed (not seen) actually has a meaning of being hidden or to hide and that is the one name that was actually hidden from Lester in his study. I have yet to see a book in the Christian book store that is about the names of God which includes this El-Olawm. Right in His Word God declares "I am the God who hides", people read and study it (including myself) and yet DON'T see it and don't include this as a name that reveals His Nature and character.Just Amazing. Remain Blessed,M____
It is always a blessing to hear from you. Thanks for sharing this observation with me.
I knew the meaning of 'olawm' carried with it the thought of being hidden or unseen, but I had not carried that thought over to 'aion' in the New Testament.
'Life aionios is the hidden of unseen "kingdom of God [which] is within us."
Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is [hidden] within you.
Luke 17:22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see [it].
Luke 17:23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
"The kingdoms of this world [aion] are [not yet] the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ." When the day comes that they "have become the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ," then it will no longer be a hidden kingdom and then the visible world will be ruled, not from a hidden position within, but with a rod of iron from without. This will, of course simply set the world up for it's final purging and death's destruction at the consummation of the aions:
1 Cor 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
At that point "all in Adam [will be] in Christ."
Every little nugget of Truth makes God's Word simply more complete, but it is all 'olawm' or hidden to the natural man.
Thank you. Your brother in Christ,
Mike
