Should Christians Vote?

Mike,
I have a question. I hope you will answer this for me. I was told that, as a Christian, I should vote in this election; that Christ wants us to vote, because it is part of doing His work. How can I vote for a righteous man, when I do not believe that there is one? Doesn't God have this election under His control and the outcome will be His will being done, for His purpose? I believe that we are to pray for His kingdom to come and His will be done in this election. I believe that He wants us to come out of this world and not take part in its customs, as voting and other traditions. What do you believe, Mike? Am I wrong in not wanting to vote. I know I am to pay my taxes and obey the laws. But how can I vote for a man?
I pray I hear from you.
Your Sister In Christ

Hi K____,
It is good to hear from you again. No, if your citizenship is in heaven, then you have no business getting involved with the affairs of this age.
I was unable to watch the first presidential debate, but I did see the vice presidential debates and the second presidential debate. I am always amazed at how thoroughly each candidate proves the other to be a hypocritical liar. The one thing that is always proved by these debates is that both parties are without credibility. All elections are for what one considers to be the lesser of two evils. This is simply not the time for a righteous government in this earth. This is the time when God is sending 'strong delusion' upon those who "have not received a love of the Truth." And what is the Truth? Here is the Truth: "My kingdom is NOT of this world."
Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Just ask yourself where your citizenship is. If it is in heaven, then you have about as much right voting for anything as Christ would have had voting in the Roman senate.
Read the letters on military service that deal with this same subject. There are others on the web page that deal with this subject of military service that you would find very instructive. An article on voting brings out even more scriptures concerning this issue here. I hope this answers your question to your satisfaction. It is not easy to obey the scriptures in a Christian world that hates the plain truth of God's Word. Words like "Our citizenship is in heaven..." and words like "Love your enemies." It would be impossible for the flesh, even if the church affirmed these words. It takes nothing less than "Christ in us" to remain faithful to the words of our Lord.
